Gordon E. Smith, 84, of Marion, passed away at 7:05 pm on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, at Aperion Care in Marion. He was born in Marion on June 14, 1937, to Oscar and Edna (Emerich) Smith.
Gordon had worked for Pope Foundry, Bahr Foundry, and Marion Community Schools. In addition to attending Lakeview Wesleyan Church, Gordon had attended the First Church of the Nazarene. He liked to go for bike rides. He was a train enthusiast and liked seeing old steam locomotives. He also loved music and had a large collection of records and Victrola record players. Gordon will be remembered as a loving brother who was dedicated to his family and his Lord. He will be missed dearly by his brother, sister, and several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his brother, John D. (late Cheryl A.) Smith of Marion; sister, Mary Alice (Alfred) Oglesby of Memphis, TN; nieces, Nicole J. (Dr. Jeremy R.) Wilson of Marion, Natalie J. (Mark) Shipman of Mexico, and Lisa (James) Reasoner of Prescott, AZ; nephews, Todd (Jeanette) Oglesby of Memphis, TN, and Michael Oglesby of Memphis, TN; special great-nephews, Douglas, Justin (Kayla), Brett, Cameron, Brendan, Cody, Braden, and Tanner; several additional great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends and church family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Z. Smith; mother, Edna Smith; and step-mother, Mary M. Smith.
The family will receive visitors from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Gordon's life will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
