Gordon "Gordy" Frank Swanberg
July 15, 1941 – January 12, 2026

Gordon "Gordy" Frank Swanberg, 84, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Gordy was born on July 15, 1941, in Culver City, California. At the age of three, his family moved to East Grand Forks, where he would spend the rest of his life and build deep roots in the community he loved.

He graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School in 1959. On February 17, 1962, Gordy married the love of his life, Sheila Johnson. Together they shared more than six decades of marriage, raising a family and creating countless cherished memories. Gordy dedicated over 40 years of service to the United States Post Office, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly nature. After retirement, Gordy kept busy working at Hugo's doing deliveries.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Gordy was especially proud to serve as the chain-gang volunteer at local Greenwave football games for many years. Golf was his true passion-he enjoyed daily rounds on the course, and even when he wasn't playing, you could still find him out there collecting lost golf balls. He also loved a good poker game and the camaraderie that came with it. Above all else, Gordy treasured his family. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Gordy is survived by his loving wife, Sheila (Johnson) Swanberg of East Grand Forks; children David (Deb) Swanberg of LeSueur, MN, Denise Huderle of Norwalk, IA, DyAnn (Kenley) Stordahl of East Grand Forks, Dawn Swanberg of East Grand Forks; dear family friend Shelley Paulson of East Grand Forks; grandchildren Amanda (Jonny) Trevino, Abbi (Derek) Craig, Sam (Harrison) Aakre, Matthew (Katelyn) Huderle, Seth (Sydney) Stordahl, Jack (Ashley) Swanberg, and Sarah (Ryan) Voss; great-grandchildren Jayden, Kali, Charlie, Crosby, Addison, Mikko, Oskar, Noah, Collins, Cora, William, Adeline, Emerson; and siblings Roger (Jenny) Swanberg, Wendy Schrider and Sally (Ken) Wallace.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Edna Swanberg; brothers Paul, Glenn, and Steven; great-granddaughters Caitlyn and Solveig; and great-grandson Mads.

Gordy's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for family and community will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

We first met Gordy and the entire Swanberg clan shortly after David came to stay with us during his junior hockey days with the Mavericks. We instantly fell in love with David and all of his family. We all became fast friends and have enjoyed golf days, poker games, traveling, and watching each others family grow. Family was always top priority for Gordy and I think that´s why we all fit so well together. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy are with Sheila, the kids, grandkids and great grandkids. He will be missed but the memories are abundant.
