Grace Chapman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel - Bonham on Dec. 30, 2025.
Grace Margaret Chapman, 89, of Ivanhoe, Texas, passed away on December 28th, 2025, surrounded by her family. Grace was born June 9th, 1936, in Port O'Connor, Texas, the daughter of Joe Chano and Amelia 'Gonzales' Chano. Her childhood years were spent on the Texas coast prior to moving to San Antonio as a teenager.
She met the love of her life, Kenneth Dale Chapman, during his first year of service stationed at Lackland Air Force Base on a blind date. They married on September 2nd, 1956, at the Chano family home in San Antonio, TX., and were married for 68 years.
Grace spent the bulk of her years as a faithful military wife – helping in every move to make each house a home, whether it was near an airbase in Alaska, Wisconsin, Texas, and Lake Charles, Louisiana where they settled while their children; Kenny, Randy and Beverly attended school. Later in life, Ken & Grace moved to Ivanhoe, Texas, where their family home has held countless memories for nearly 30 years.
Grace adored her husband Ken, along with her children, sisters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her legacy is marked by a deep love for her family and friends, spending time on numerous dance floors with Ken, and cooking for the people she loved. She was a sports fan through and through, but a piece of her heart will always belong to the Dallas Mavericks (specifically, Dirk Nowitzki).
Remaining to cherish Grace's memory are her children, Kenneth R. Chapman (& Elyse), Randy (& Sissy) Chapman, and Beverly Chapman (& Gina); grandchildren, Chris Chapman, Brandon Chapman, Bo (& Lindsay) Chapman, Wesley (& Emily) Chapman, and Haley Chapman; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Chapman, Caleb Chapman, Miles Chapman, Alley Grace Chapman, and Graham Chapman, as well as sisters and their spouses; Lillie Frye, Mary Coker, Lucy (& Jimmy) Littrell, Gertie (& Bob) Espeland, and Susan (& Lupe) Castillo. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Dale Chapman; daughter, Karen Jean Chapman; parents, Joe and Amelia Chano; sisters and their spouses, Minnie Nugent, Frances (& Jimmy) Wilkinson, and Beatrice Vickers; brother, Joe N. Chano; and grandson, Aaron Chapman.
The visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:00 PM on January 2nd, 2025, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham, Texas. The service will follow at 2:00 PM.
