Grace L. Howerton

On Monday, January 5, 2026 Grace L.Howerton entered into eternal rest. Family will received friends on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 11am until time of funeral service at 12pm at Sylvan Vista Baptist Church 1101 60th Avenue Fairmount Heights, Maryland. Interment Harmony Memorial Park Cemetery

Grace L. Howerton was born on April 19, 1933, in Washington, D.C., to the late Milton and Lillian (Wilson) Early. She departed this life on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Grace was educated in the Prince George's County Public School System and graduated from Fairmount Heights High School. At an early age, she accepted Christ and was baptized at Sylvan Vista Baptist Church. There, she formed a close and lasting bond with the Luckett family and became a devoted member of the church she loved so dearly. Grace faithfully served wherever she was needed, giving her time and heart as a member of the Missionary Team, Usher Board, and Choir.

While attending church, she met Roy T. Howerton. They were united in marriage on September 28, 1956. From this union, two daughters were born: Thomasine A. Howerton and Theresa F. Smith.

Grace worked a variety of jobs over the years, including positions at the United States Capitol and O'Donnell's Seafood Restaurant. She later secured a role as a teacher's aide at Davis Elementary School, where her granddaughter Nina was a student. Unwilling to be separated from her grandmother, Nina inspired Grace to take the job so they could be together.

Grace deeply loved her family, and above all, her love for the Lord guided her life. She was always willing to help in any way she could. She will be remembered for her welcoming smile, kind heart, and gentle presence that touched everyone who knew her.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Roy T. Howerton; sisters, Phyllis Wiggins and Dolores Early; and brothers, Milton Early and Bill James. She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Cedric Early; two daughters, Thomasine A. Howerton and Theresa F. Smith (Wil); granddaughter, Nina F. Allen (Jermaine); two great-granddaughters, Jordyn F. Bynum and Jaimie A. Bynum; and a host of relatives and friends.

She will be greatly missed but forever present in our hearts.
