Nancy Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Charleston Cremation Center and Funeral Home - Charleston on Feb. 20, 2026.
Nancy Stansell Hall, 80, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on February 14, 2026.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 950 Darrell Creek Trail, Mt. Pleasant. A luncheon will follow the Mass. An inurnment service will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Mepkin Abbey, 1098 Mepkin Abbey Road, Moncks Corner.

Nancy was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on June 13, 1945, to James "Jimmy" Edward Stansell, Sr. and Gertrude "Pat" Eleanor Comerford Stansell. The family later moved to Pensacola, Florida, where she spent her formative years and graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School in 1963.

After graduation, Nancy entered the Daughters of Charity in Emmitsburg, Maryland, as a postulant. Though she ultimately discerned that a life of consecrated religious service was not her calling, her time there profoundly shaped her lifelong devotion to faith, compassion, and service to others. The values she embraced during that period remained central to who she was, guiding both her family life and her volunteer work in the years that followed.

Nancy devoted much of her professional life to creativity and craftsmanship as the owner of the Stitch and Frame Shop in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Through her work, she not only built a business but cultivated a community. She took pride in the relationships she formed with customers who often became friends.

Retirement did not slow her hands or her heart. She continued to pour her talent into serving others, knitting for the Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Benedict Catholic Church, and creating quilts for Quilts of Valor to honor veterans, and for the South Carolina Youth Advocate Program for children in foster care. These efforts were more than hobbies; they were expressions of her faith, compassion, and steady commitment to lifting others up. In giving her time and skill so generously, she found deep purpose and quiet fulfillment.

Above all, Nancy loved her family fiercely. She found her greatest joy in time spent with her children, grandchildren, and dear friends, creating lasting memories marked by warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

She is survived by her beloved children, Michelle Hall (Dan) Whitaker and Diane Hall (Kurt) Blackwelder; cherished grandchildren, Natalie Rose and Kevin Daniel Whitaker, and Ethan Thomas and Matthew Edward Blackwelder; her sister, Susan Stansell (Steve) Stanko; sister-in-law, Lynne Hall (Granvel) Hood; three nieces, two nephews, and many treasured extended family members and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Pat Stansell; her in-laws, Guy O. and Louise R. Hall; her brother, James "Jed" Edward Stansell, Jr.; and her niece, Sarah Stansell Favino.

Memorial donations may be made to the Daughters of Charity Province of St. Louise, 4330 Olive Street, Suite 212, St. Louis, Missouri 63108-2622, and to the South Carolina Youth Advocate Program, 140 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 350, Columbia, SC 29210.
