Grace Kamstra Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fir Lane Memorial Park, Funeral Home, Chapel & Crematorium on Dec. 1, 2025.
Grace Kamstra, 90, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025 at her home with her loving husband beside her.
Born Geesje Wijtske teVelde,on June 2, 1935, in Stadskanaal, Groningen, Netherlands to Bay (Berend) and Bonnie (Hartholt) teVelde. She was the second of 7 children. Grace was a young girl during that time and shared many stories of World War II with her family.
In 1948, with the sponsorship of her uncles, Grace at 13, and her family moved from the Netherlands to Artesia, California where her father started in dairy business. Grace came to America not knowing the English language. While attending Belflower Christian School she was held back a year because of her lack of speaking English yet received very high grades in all other subjects especially math. Her parents encouraged her and her siblings to only speak English so they could also learn the language.
Grace met a tall handsome young Dutchman, John Kamstra. They started dating when she was in high school. They were married August 10, 1954, a few weeks after Grace became an American citizen. John and Grace welcomed 3 boys and 1 girl within 5 years, John, Terry, Bob, and Cindy.
They started a dairy in Artesia and then Ontario, California. Later, with a leap of faith, in December 1966 they moved the family to Enumclaw, Washington where they leased a dairy. In 1969 they bought a dairy in Eatonville, Washington. While John was busy on the farm, Grace was busy taking care of the house and the children. John and Grace retired from the dairy business in 1997.
Grace, or as some called her "Amazing Grace" loved the Lord. She taught her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren about Jesus. She was a member of the Tacoma Christian Reformed Community church since 1967, teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible school and lead ladies Bible study. She cooked meals for so many people and volunteered wherever she was needed. Grace was a servant and a giver, but also found time to have fun along with her
witty, somewhat sarcastic sense of humor.
In 2006, they moved to a residential area in Graham, Washington where Grace lived until her passing.
Grace is proceeded in death by her parents Bay and Bonnie teVelde, brothers, Roelie, Herman, George, Ralph and sister, Margaret (Adrian) DeKruyf.
Grace is survived by her husband John of 71 years, children; John (Leila), Terry (Tammie), Bob (Cherie) and Cindy (Dave) Tucker. 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Sister Betty (Wayne) Idsinga, Sister in laws, Sharon, Sue, Carolyn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
