Coats— Mrs. Grace Angeline “Coats” McLeod, age 90, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be held 11:00AM, Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Erwin Chapel Church with Reverend Virgil Murphy and Reverend Danny Helms officiating. Graveside services will follow in Coats City Cemetery.
Grace was born March 31, 1932, in the Cleveland School Community, Johnston County, NC to the late Ruben Otis and Nancy Jane West Coats. She attended Cleveland school and soon married the love of her life Victor Ransom McLeod and settled in Coats. A distant relative to the founder of Coats, Grace never left her roots and made her home in the town that bears her name. Together Victor and Grace lived a happy life and raised a loving family.
Mrs. Grace grew up and was the pillar of her farm life family. She always had an inviting home for family, friends, and those who may stop by. Grace cooked many a meal for those working on the family farm. She always ensured there was plenty on the table and was often heard telling those eating to “Make sure to eat it all, Eat till it’s Gone”. Her passion was her husband, her three boys, her family, her church and a watching a good baseball game.
Mrs. Grace was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord. She was a long-time member of Erwin Chapel Pentecostal Freewill Baptist church where she served and held numerous positions through the years. She exemplified a true servant life and ensured her family was up, ready, and at church whenever the opportunity was available. She ensured their needs were met well before her own.
Her husband, Victor McLeod, whom she married at 17 years old, preceded her in death. Grace had two brothers and a sister who also preceded her in death: Larry Coats, Jerry Coats, and Jean Pleasant.
Mrs. Grace is survived by three sons, Keith McLeod and Wanda of Coats, Charles McLeod and wife Teresa of Coats, and Tim McLeod and wife Alanda of Coats. She has four sisters, Barbara Nash, Patsy Coats, Sue Pope, and JoAnne Haire.
Grandma was beloved by her six grandchildren, Stephanie Carpenter and husband Sean, Angela Barbour and husband Ryan, Casey McLeod, Jamie Hamby and husband Steven, Aeriel Pack and husband Jordan, and Dylan McLeod and wife Hannah. Grandma had four great grandchildren, Abbey Reeves and husband Johnny, Gracie Barbour, Sadie Barbour, and Rhett Byrd.
The Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Wednesday, December 28, 2022, and other times at the home of Charles and Teresa McLeod, 135 Country Meadow Lane, Coats, NC 27521.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Erwin Chapel PFWB 135 Ewin Chapel Road, Erwin, NC 28339.
