Grace Elizabeth Orrill, 90, of Centralia, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the Centralia Fireside Nursing Home.
She was born August 26, 1932 in Petersburg, Nebraska, the daughter of George Henry Chana and Mary Louise (Baldridge) Chana. She married Stanley "Pete" Orrill on February 6, 1954 in Centralia and he preceded her in death.
Grace is survived by her children: Mark Orrill and wife Kathy of Marion, Jill Quick and husband Harold of Mt. Vernon, Kent Orrill of Centralia, and Ann Koch of Sandoval; several grandchildren: Mallory Koch and significant other Nathan Collier, Megan Lyke, Brian Queen, Samantha Gripp and husband Mike, Nathan Koch, Seth Orrill, Hannah Coulter and husband Cody, Anna Quick, and McKayla Quick; several great grandchildren: brother: Rodney Chana and wife Marilyn of Springfield, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: George and Mary Chana, husband: Stanley "Pete" Orrill, and granddaughter: Emily Dominquez.
Grace has lived in the Centralia area most of her life. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1950. From February 1951 to January 1954, she attended and graduated from Evangelical Deaconess School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri with her Registered Nurse Diploma.
Grace started her nursing career in 1954 at Dr. John Stedelin office in Centralia. She was the Director of Nursing at the Centralia Fireside Nursing Home, she worked at Midland Area Agency on Aging- Community Care Program. She also worked at several hospitals during her career: Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, and St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. She worked for BCMW with the Home Health Program, WIC Program for Women and Children, and worked at BCMW Project Bread.
Grace loved her family and cherished the time she spent with her kids and great grandkids. She was a good friend to her co-workers and was always trying to help in any way when needed. She was "Aunt Gracie" to many whether related or not. She enjoyed playing cards, reading and word search puzzles.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Little Grove Cemetery in Walnut Hill with Bumper Quick officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the BCMW Project Bread, Little Grove Cemetery Fund, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Orrill Family.
