Grace Thomas

Grace R. Thomas, 95, of Vicksburg, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, November 6, 2025, with her family at her side. Grace was born July 12, 1930 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Walter and Rose (Huddleston) Carter. She was a graduate of Comstock High School and went on to work as a bookkeeper at Lakeside Boys Home. While he was home on leave, Grace was united in marriage to Gilbert L. Thomas. She and Gilbert raised three children, and enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, spending winters in Florida. Grace also loved to garden and plant flowers and could often be seen on her John Deere tractor mowing her lawn. She enjoyed lunch with the "lunch bunch girls" and was a consummate host, hosting Christmas parties and summer parties with her sisters. Most of all she loved her family. She was a proud and dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed being a part of all of their lives.
Grace is survived by three children, Steve (Shelia) Thomas of Lagrange, IN, Kenny (Gina) Thomas of Vicksburg, and Teri (Thomas) Lowery of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, Joshua (Stephanie) Thomas of Noblesville, IN, Jamie (Leslie Hedman) Thomas of Chicago, Ian (Haylee) Thomas of Bloomington, MN, Zachary Thomas of Schoolcraft, and Ashley (Luis) Briones of Irvine, CA; three great grandchildren, Matthew, Megan and Frances Thomas; and a sister Ruth (John Sr.) Roller. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gilbert in 2008, and six siblings, Cora Shepherd, Gert Darnell, Thomas Carter, Evelyn Macleod, Dorothy Weese and Doris Dover.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Adams – Redmond Funeral Homes, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, where a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. She will be laid to rest with Gilbert Fort Custer National Cemetery that afternoon at 3 p.m. For those wishing to make a contribution in her memory, the family suggests Centrica Care Navigators.
