Graham Lambeth Andrews, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. According to his birth certificate, he was born on August 5, 1945 in Danville, VA to Graham Lambeth Andrews, Sr. and Edith Lockwood Matherly Andrews. According to his mother, the date on the birth certificate was incorrect, and he was actually born on August 6, which is the day he celebrated his birthday.
After graduating from high school, Graham started his college studies at UNC-Chapel Hill. He interrupted his studies to enlist in the US Air Force in the late 60’s, where he worked in intelligence gathering. After his service, he resumed his college studies and graduated from Elon College (now University) in 1973 with a major in mathematics. He had a long career with Burlington Industries as a computer specialist/programmer. Graham was a skillful computer gamer and his Cyberspace Soldiers gaming buddies were great friends. He loved boating and was a frequent visitor to his aunt’s house on the intercoastal waterway at Atlantic Beach where he enjoyed taking long scenic boat rides with friends. Graham was an avid UNC Tar Heel fan and rarely missed watching their games on television, whether at home or at a sports bar. Moon Shiner-Z in Burlington was one of his favorites.
He leaves behind an aunt, Geraldine Rivenbark of Danville; many cousins, including Kathy Pickeral and husband Acie of Chatham Va, Polly Lester and husband Clayton of Danville Va, and Steve Matherly and wife Rosemary of Danville Va; a stepbrother, Johnny Faust and wife Pam; his good friends, Tom and Connie Bien, and their children, Thomas and Julia Bien; and his ever-supportive neighbors, Dave and Kathy Chantry and their children. Graham was preceded in death by his father, Graham L. Andrews, Sr., his mother, Edith Matherly Faust and his stepfather, Thomas “Tom” Albright Faust.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Graham will be held at 1:00pm Friday, January 3, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with a private entombment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 12:45pm Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Elon University, 100 Campus Drive, Elon, NC 27244. You may send condolences and watch the service online at www.lowefuneralhome.com
