Elon – Wayne Douglas Summers, 79, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Guilford County to the late Lester David and Winona Merritt Summers and was married for 52 years to the late Pamela Barber Summers.
Wayne retired from NC DOT after 32 years as a heavy equipment mechanic and supervisor. He was a member of Altamahaw Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon, cemetery caretaker, custodian and presided over the deacon board. Wayne enjoyed restoring old cars, repairing heavy machinery, mowing his yard and fishing. He was always present at his grandson’s sporting events including, baseball, softball, basketball and football. Wayne enjoyed Gospel music and family trips to the beach.
He is survived by his daughter, Christie Ingle and husband, Tal of Elon; grandson, Scott Ingle and wife, Michelle; great grandchildren, Katelyn Wray and husband, Josh, Rebecca Mitchell and Rachel Mitchell; great great grandchildren, Garrett Wray, Everleigh Coffey and Ezekiel Wray; brothers, Eddie Wilson Summers and Robert Summers and wife, Delois; sister-in-law, Vickie Jones and husband, Barry and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife; parent; brother, David Ray Summers and a sister-in-law, Denise B. Summers.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 12, 2025 at Altamahaw Baptist Church by Rev. Walter Jones. A graveside service will be at 10AM Friday at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence.
