Marilyn Hinson Fox

Elon - Marilyn Hinson Fox, 76, of Elon passed away peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2025, in Burlington, NC. Marilyn was born on July 19, 1949, in Pelzer, South Carolina. She was the wife of the late Rodney Fox, who preceded her death in November 2017, and the daughter of the late Robert Bickett Hinson and Marjorie Tubb Hinson.

Marilyn was a proud two-time alumna of Appalachian State University, with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science, both in Music Education. Marilyn devoted her career to teaching music at Elon Elementary School, where she inspired countless children with her passion for music and education.

She was an active charter member of both the Alamance Jazz Band and the combo band Reflections. She served as Music Director and accompanist on many Gallery Players productions, as well as other local theater projects. She also played with other music groups in the surrounding region, including the Elon Orchestra, and served on the board of the Burlington Boys Choir. Marilyn loved sharing her musical gifts and enriching the cultural life of the community. Her love of learning continued as a member and contributor on the curriculum development team at Life at Elon.

For 29 years, Marilyn faithfully served as accompanist at Shallow Ford Christian Church, where she was also an active member, giving her time and talents generously in service to her congregation. Her music lifted spirits and touched hearts each week. Beyond her professional and church life, Marilyn was known for her kindness, creativity, dedication to excellence, and her deep affection for her beloved cats.

She is survived by her three daughters, Erin K. Fox (husband Jason Bennett), Lindsay A. Fox, and Meredith K. Fox (husband Derek Hollis); and by her siblings, Jerry Hinson (wife Renee Hinson), Margaret Hinson (husband Paul Salsman), Holly Roberson (husband Gus Roberson), and sister-in-law Peggy Chandler (late husband, Mike Chandler). Marilyn also had many nieces and nephews whom she adored, and she loved keeping up with their lives through her close connection with her siblings.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at Shallow Ford Christian Church on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. by Pastor Steve Regan, with the family receiving friends following the service in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Relay For Life or AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice).

Marilyn's love of music, faith, and family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
