Mr. John R. Fox, Jr. ("Jack"), age 86, of Claymont, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jack was the son of Dorothy Isabelle Guth and John Robert Fox, Sr.; and one of nine children in a large and lively family. He grew up in the Fishtown neighborhood and attended Penn Treaty School before later completing his education through Camden County Community College; a milestone he was deeply proud of.
Jack proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he achieved the rank of Airman Third Class and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. His time in the service became a lasting source of pride, influencing his strong work ethic, quiet discipline, and deep commitment to family.
Before his retirement, Jack dedicated more than three decades to his career as a short-haul truck driver and machinist. A proud member of Teamsters Local 676, he drove for Halls Transportation, Yellow Freight, and other regional carriers. His coworkers knew him for his dependability, his straightforward nature, and his unwavering commitment to putting in an honest day's work.
Jack's greatest love was for his family, but his lifelong passion was music. A gifted guitarist with a smooth second-tenor voice, he performed for many years in local bands. His Doo-Wop group, The Illusions, achieved the remarkable distinction of earning a recording contract; with songs such as "Hey Boy" and "Lonely Soldier," which can still be heard on local oldies stations. It remained an accomplishment he cherished throughout his life. Their music and performances continue to live on today through archival recordings via YouTube. Beyond music, Jack enjoyed traveling, cheering on Philadelphia sports teams, and relaxing while watching televised golf tournaments.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Fox (2018), and his son, Kenneth Fox (February 2025). He was also preceded in death by his brothers; Kenneth Guth, Benjamin Fox, and Peter Trush; his sisters; Catherine Kearsley and Marianne Burns; and his beloved companion of more than 35 years, Marian Olivia Conforte, who passed in September 2022. The memory of each of them remained close to his heart.
Jack is survived by his children; his daughter, Lorie Fox-Jones, and his sons, Jamison Fox and John Ross Fox. He is also survived by his five grandchildren; Jamison Fox Jr., Danielle Fox-Ehler, Timothy Jones Jr., Katelynn Fox, and Edward Fox; and by his first great-grandchild, Joseph Kimrey III. Jack is further survived by his brother, Paul Trush, and his sisters, Dorothy Fox and Christine DeSandro. In addition, Jack is lovingly survived by Marian's family; her daughter, Susan Elizabeth McNeill, and her grandchildren, Ashley Rose McNeill, Matthew Ryan McNeill, and Christine Elizabeth McNeill; and her nieces and nephews, Karen Hickey, Brian Hickey, and Dr. Janet Hickey.
