Grant and Elaine Scholler ObituaryIt didn't matter if you called them Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, or just a friend, Grant and Elaine shared the same love with everyone. This was shown and shared through volunteering in everything from church, to school, to cub scouts. Grandma being a teacher even meant sometimes mom was the substitute teacher in grade school.
Loving the outdoors was an experience that provided some of the best memories for everyone. Sharing time together outside looking at plants in the garden, cross country skiing, bird watching, camping, bike riding, walking, and of course fishing was a happy place to be together. They complimented each other in spending time on the water driving their boat, with grandma putting worms on hooks and grandpa finding the best hot spots to catch fish. Then taking those fish and grandma cleaning them and grandma cooking them for dinner. When visiting it always gave a sense of refreshment.
They always made it clear that they cherished time together with loved ones even if hunting for easter baskets could be a bit embarrassing when bringing new people (girlfriends) for the first time. Both were talented in ways that everyone loved, grandma always making sure there are cookies on the counter, making the famous pancakes and French Toast and grandpas wood working skills along with the ability to make anyone laugh with goofy faces and clever jokes. The smile never left their faces when they had visitors and one will never forget the duet of them singing happy birthday over the phone in the goofiest of voices, playing endless competitive matches of Skip-bo (where grandma made sure to keep a close eye on grandpa for cheating) or the way it felt to be making memories together.
A celebration of their lives will be held Monday September 16th from 4pm- 7pm at Tohle Funeral Home 4325 W. Lawrence Ave. Chicago, IL 60630. No donations please. Information available at 773-685-4400
