GOD'S CREATIONS
Granville Henry Dutton Sr, a US Navy Veteran, born October 5, 1942 to the late Renager G Dutton. At the time of his passing he was married to the love of his life, Thelma Marie Dutton. He departed this life on Monday, April 22, 2024 at his home in Salisbury, MD.
MAY THE WORK I'VE DONE SPEAK FOR ME
Granville was educated in the Wicomico County School System and received an Associates Degree from Tidewater Community College. Early on he realized he wanted to pursue a career in the Navy. Consequently, he often visited the recruiters office from the age of 15-18 years old in pursuit of his goal to join the Navy with the hope of early an enlistment. It was in November 1960 that he enlisted in the United States Navy. He retired in November 1986. Granville had a remarkable career in the Navy and retired as Command Master Chief. He received many medals including the Purple Heart.
On retiring from the Navy, he worked in various positions and retired from Wicomico Nursing Home as Director of Environmental Services.
SERVING THE COMMUNITY
Granville served on the Board of Directors for Wicomico Public Library and participated in the Adult Literacy Program where he taught adults to read. He was a mentor to young boys through the Wicomico Mentoring Program and was instrumental in their educational and social growth, taking them to the Shorebirds and Oriole Games. He was also a companion/reader to Veterans at Coastal Hospice. Granville has been influential in the lives of many young men who chose the path of a military career as well as being a Mentor during his tenure in the Navy.
He was a huge Baseball fan and attended Orioles Spring Training on several occasions, and frequently attended Oriole and Shorebirds Games. He was a proficient and avid crossword puzzle solver, well versed in current events and dabbled in the Stock Market.
Most of all Granville loved his Family. His Mantra was" May the Life I live and May the Service I give speak for me"
