Greg Beckman died peacefully with his family surrounding him at Sanford Hospital on December 9, 2025, after a short battle with lung cancer.
Funeral services will take place at Heritage Funeral Home on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. Family will be present two hours before the service for visitation, from 1:00–3:00 p.m.
Greg was born on October 7, 1952, to Marlin Beckman and Byrle (Boesel) Beckman in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970. He then went on to graduate from the University of S.D. in 1974 with a degree in Psychology and History. In 1976, he attended the University of Nebraska master’s program, where he became a lifelong Husker fan.
Greg met the love of his life (she hopes 😊), Lois Elster, in the summer of 1970 through their great friend, Mark Moberly . They were united in marriage on July 7, 1973. Their family grew when their son, Joshua, was born in July 1978. Their second son, Zachary, was born in October 1981.
In 1974, after graduating from USD, Greg was employed at Midwest Coast Transport for 40 years, off and on, where he made lifelong friendships until he retired in 2018, which freed them up to travel for a couple of winters—one year to Florida and the next year to South Padre Island in Texas.
Greg enjoyed golfing, trips to the Black Hills, camping, playing darts, attending the Sioux River Folk Festival yearly, and many other musical events. One of his favorite things to do was to watch the Huskers play on Saturdays, and he was known to throw some epic Husker parties.
Another joy of Greg’s was the annual Poinsett Open, a tradition he shared with his great friends Jeff, Larry, and Bruce, which in 2025 marked its 43rd year. Greg loved spending time with his grandchildren—going to movies, camping at Newton Hills, and taking them out to eat.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lois Beckman; sons Josh Beckman (Danielle) and Zach Beckman (Danyel); grandchildren Ava, Tatum, and London Beckman; his brother Brian Beckman (Carol); and sister-in-law Pam Beckman.
Greg was preceded in death by his brother, Randy; nephew, Thad Beckman; niece, Leigh Ann Beckman; his parents and grandparents; and many other friends and relatives.
Kindly direct memorial contributions to Greg's family.
