Greg Cartmell, age 77, of Plymouth, MA, and formerly of Meridian, MS, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Born on July 11th, 1947, he was the son of the late Robert Cartmell and Theresa (LaForest) Cartmell. Raised in Plymouth, Greg graduated from Sacred Heart High School, class of 1965.
A man of many talents, Greg was a nationally acclaimed artist, talented musician, and dedicated teacher. He shared his passion for art and music with countless students, both privately and at Meridian Community College as well as the University of West Alabama. Greg's artistic abilities extended beyond painting, as he was also a gem importer, jewelry designer, and custom knife maker.
In his early twenties, Greg worked as an undercover Federal Narcotics Agent, showcasing his bravery and commitment to public service. He later graduated from the New England Institute of Funeral Directing, Embalming, and Sanitary Science, becoming a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Greg worked alongside his father and sister in the family business, continuing the legacy of his father, who was also an artist. He loved spending time playing with his band The "Resonators", where he was lead singer and guitarist.
Greg is survived by the love of his life for over 43 years, Deborah "Debbie" Martin, and his sister, Kathy Cartmell-Sirrico, both of Plymouth. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Hope Webb, her husband Alan, and their son Connor of Meridian, MS. Additionally, Greg leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Cindy Hatcher of Meridian, his nephew Brandon Sirrico, his wife Jeanelle, and their sons Marco and Enzo, all of Miami, FL, as well as his niece Nanette Rondeau and her daughter Celeste of Plymouth, MA. He was the brother of the late Dr. John P. Cartmell. His loyal pups Sweetpea, Morticia and Roscoe were by his side until the end.
Greg's legacy is one of creativity, dedication, and love for his family and students. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
