Gregory Lynn Scott, known affectionately as Greg to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home on January 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 31, 1961, in
Trenton, Tennessee, Greg's life was characterized by his unwavering love for his family, his passion for sports, and his dedication to his craft as a carpenter.
He was the beloved son of the late Garry Scott and Shelby Mathis Scott and grew up alongside his brothers, sharing life's adventures. Though his father, mother, and brother Garry Wayne Scott preceded him in death, their influence on Greg's life was profound and lasting.
As a skilled carpenter, Greg's handiwork was not only his profession but also his passion. His craftsmanship was a testament to his attention to detail and his commitment to excellence. Greg's reputation as a dedicated TSSAA umpire reflected his love for sports and his desire to be involved in his community. His Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with everyone he met.
Greg's love for sports extended beyond the field as he took great joy in coaching youth baseball in Milan for many years. His enthusiasm for the game and his ability to inspire young athletes left a lasting impact on the community. Greg's love for the outdoors and working with his hands was evident to all who knew him. Whether he was building, fixing, or creating, he was in his element.
Above all, Greg cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sherry Scott, his son Gray Scott (Leah) of Milan, and his adored grandchildren Bentley Scott, Saylor Grace Scott, and Elise MacDonald. His brother Garland Scott (Lonna) of Trenton also survives him, carrying forward the family legacy. Greg's role as "Pop Pop" was perhaps his most treasured; he was regarded by his grandchildren as the best "Pop Pop" that ever lived-a testament to the depth of his love and the joy he brought to their lives.
Gregory Lynn Scott's life was a beautiful tapestry of devotion to his family, service to his community, and a celebration of the simple joys in life. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Funeral services for Greg will take place at 3:00 PM Monday, January 19, 2026, at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Shiloh Church Cemetery near Milan. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
