Lois Moore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Jan. 24, 2026.
Lois Loftin Moore was born on February 18, 1934, in rural McNairy County, TN and passed peacefully from this life on January 20, 2026. She was the daughter of Orba Otis Loftin and Leeora Smith Loftin.

After graduating from High school in Lexington, TN, Lois briefly attended Bethel College in McKenzie, TN before going to work at the Milan Arsenal in Milan, TN. It was during this time that she began dating Hugh McCall (Buddy) Moore, Jr. of Memphis. On April 24, 1954 Lois and Buddy were married at St. James Episcopal Church in Memphis. Except for a brief move to. Nashville early in their marriage, Lois and Buddy lived in the Memphis area for the rest of their lives.

The Moore family grew to four with the arrival of son Mike in 1959 and son John in 1963. While raising her two sons, Lois worked in administrative positions at the Galbreath Company and Shainberg's. An avid genealogist, Lois was a proud member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, and the National Society United States Daughters of 1812. She was a communicant of Grace St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Memphis and was involved in many church activities.

As their health began to decline, Lois and Buddy moved into assisted living at the Memphis Jewish Home in Cordova. In 2020, the love of her life Buddy passed away after 66 years of marriage.

Besides Buddy, Lois was predeceased by her parents and brothers Hershel Loftin, Almo Loftin, and Neil Loftin. She is survived by her two sons, Mike (Laura) who reside in Booneville, MS and John (Rose) who reside in Collierville, TN. Lois is also survived by grandsons David (Krista) who reside in Hernando, MS and Joseph (Jessica) who reside Tampa, FL, and great-granddaughters Amber Moore and Molly Moore.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Lois to the Memphis Jewish Home in gratitude of the care she received while a resident there, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Services for Lois will held on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 11:00am, in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive family and friends for visitation from 10:00am until the service hour. Burial will follow win Memorial Park Cemetery
