Gregory Benn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stroud Funeral Home on Feb. 2, 2026.
Gregory Richard Benn, age 69, of Lake Jackson, Texas passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Friday, January 30, 2026. He was born on December 12, 1956 to R. Lee and Josephine Benn in Freeport, Texas. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1975, where he met the love of his life, Gaylynn Williams Benn. They were married on May 19, 1979. Following high school, Greg attended Brazosport College and began his career of over 36 years at DOW Chemical Company.

Greg was preceded in death by his loving wife Gaylynn and his parents R. Lee and Josephine Benn. He is survived by his son Derek and wife Katie of Santa Fe, TX; daughter Courtney and husband Shelby of Lake Jackson, TX; four grandchildren: Aaron & Aubrey Benn, and Colby & Connor Vernor; brother Michael Benn; as well as numerous friends and family members.

Greg accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was a young man, and he loved to serve Him through his church home, First Baptist Brazoria, where he served as a deacon and taught four year olds in Sunday school for many years. He also helped with the maintenance of the church facility, including overseeing the mowing of the church lawn, something he loved to do. Greg truly had a servant's heart and loved serving both the Lord and those around him selflessly.

In retirement, Greg found great joy in woodworking, peaceful days working on his Somerville property, and the special role he cherished most: being a devoted grandfather. He had a love for being outdoors, and he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping hogs. Greg never shied away from hard work, and he truly embodied Colossians 3:23: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord."

Visitation will be on Friday, February 6th at 10:00am at First Baptist Church, Brazoria, Texas. A celebration of life will immediately follow at 11:00am with Bro. Greg Smith officiating. His final resting place will be at Restwood Cemetery in Clute.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Brazoria Building Fund.
