Obituary of Gregory E. Callas
An East Pittsburgh native, age 53, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025, surrounded by love and music.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel and Deanna (Lapcevich) Callas.
He was the dear brother of Steve (Maureen) Callas of Greentree, Paul (Melanie) Callas of Penn, Maria (Raja) Krishnaswamy of Monroeville, Christina Rodman of North Braddock and the late Nicolette (surviving spouse Ray) Rafalski, and he was the brother-in-law of Ron Rodman.
Greg is also survived by aunts, an uncle, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as his beloved pets, BooBoo, Poopsie, Mr. Pibb and Baby Kitty.
Greg was a 1989 graduate of Woodland Hills High School and furthered his education by earning a degree in Music Education from Duquesne University in 1997.
He was proud to be employed as a scheduler with S&S Transit in North Versailles but was primarily known for his profound love of music.
He was a pianist, often found sharing his talent with those around him. Greg was pleased to post his song, Fly High, on YouTube which gave description of dealing with his diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer and its progression. His musical journey was deeply intertwined with his faith; he followed in his father's footsteps to become a Cantor at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in White Oak. Since 1990, Greg cherished the chants and prayers of the Greek Orthodox tradition.
Embracing his rich heritage, Greg was proud of both his Greek and Serbian roots and he celebrated his culture through music and faith.
Greg found joy in the tranquility of walking that provided him with a sense of peace, an opportunity to reflect and keep him in shape.
His gentle spirit, kind heart, and love of music will be remembered fondly by friends, family, parishioners and the many lives he touched. His legacy is one of love, faith, and the beauty of song – a testament to a life well-lived. May his memory be eternal.
All are welcome on Thursday from 5-7pm and Friday from 2-8pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, (412) 824-8800 where a Trisagion will be prayed on Friday at 7pm.
