Gregory James Commins, 84, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, at Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, Florida. Born in New Hyde Park, New York, on November 8, 1939, Greg was the cherished son of the late Matthew and Mary Anne Commins.
Greg was a family man at heart, with a natural protective instinct and an unwavering pride in his loved ones. His family's accomplishments were his own, and he celebrated their successes with joy and admiration. Known for his love of golf, his skillful touch in the garden, and his passion for dancing to Portuguese music, Greg took great pleasure in the simple yet profound joys of life. His presence was steady and grounding, bringing warmth and strength to everyone who knew him, and his joyful spirit would light up the room, especially when his favorite music played.
He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his two beloved nephews, Kevin Jr. and Bryan Commins.
Greg is survived by his devoted wife, Ida Commins, and his son, Gregory Commins Jr., along with his daughter-in-law Patricia. He leaves behind five cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Jackie, Willie, Ria, and Robbie, each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness. He is also survived by his brothers, Kevin Commins (Loretta) and Raymond Commins (Joanne), as well as his niece and nephews, Cindy, Timmy, Christopher, and Ryan. Greg will also be fondly remembered by a wide circle of extended family and dear friends.
Arrangements are being handled by Heritage Funeral and Cremation. Greg's memory will be a guiding light for all who loved him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, whose lives he touched with compassion, kindness, and love.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast or the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Greg.
