Deacon Gregory L. Crudup

Deacon Gregory Lewis Crudup was born on August 31, 1955, to Elizabeth Brame Crudup and David Lee Crudup. He was lovingly raised by his devoted aunt and uncle, Iona and Andrew Harris.
Greg grew up in Linden, NJ, and later moved to Rahway, NJ, where he graduated from Rahway High School in 1974. He built a respected career marked by dedication and integrity, serving as Supervisor at Wonder Bread, Personal Chauffeur to the former Secretary of State of New Jersey, Lonna Hooks, and later retiring as Company Chauffeur for The Green Group, whom he considered extended family.
In 1975, Greg met the love of his life, Elizabeth Kirby, and they were united in marriage on June 19, 1982. Their union was blessed with two children, Shannon Iona and Gregory Tyshon, and later with his cherished granddaughter, Aria Jean, who joyfully claimed that "Pop-Pop loved her the best!"
On April 24, 2013, Greg received the gift of life when his son, Tyshon, donated a kidney to him-granting Greg twelve more precious years to live, love, and laugh with his family.
Greg was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for over 35 years, where he served as a Youth Advisor and an Ordained Deacon. In 2010, he was honored as Father of the Year for his unwavering devotion to his family and faith.
A devoted New York Knicks fan, you could often find Greg in his man cave cheering on his team and enjoying the game.
On October 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, Greg peacefully transitioned with their hands holding his-and God's hand guiding him home.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Brame Crudup; parents, Iona and Andrew Harris; and brothers, David and Lloyd Crudup.
He leaves to cherish his memory of his devoted wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Shannon; son, Tyshon; granddaughter, Aria; brothers, William Crudup (Sally), Tony Bryant (Mary), Junior Crews (Patricia), Lamont Bryant (Gayle), Jeffery Cruz (Joyce), and Andrew Harris (Patricia, deceased); sister, Bonita James (Reggie); bonus mothers, Maxine Bryant and Larnice Spruill; godchildren, Jeme' Wright, Danielle Goldson, and Brittany Dillard; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
Greg's life was a reflection of faith, love, and family. His laughter, kindness, and gentle spirit will remain forever in our hearts.
