Charles Mazur, 93, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at the Palm Beach Nursing Center in Lake Worth, Florida.
Born in Carteret, New Jersey, on January 14, 1932, to the late Nicholas and Anna Mazur, Charles spent his early childhood in Carteret before moving to Rahway, where he grew up and graduated from Rahway High School in 1950. Always athletic, one of his proudest accomplishments was serving as captain of the Rahway High School basketball team, leading them to a state championship during his junior year.
After high school, Charles began working at General Motors at the age of 18. A year later, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Greenland, Alaska, and even the Arctic Circle, where he worked as a cryptographer. His family fondly recalls the photos of him bundled up against the subzero temperatures while proudly serving his country.
Following his honorable service, Charles returned home and resumed his career with General Motors, dedicating an impressive 37 years to the company. Starting from the ground up, he eventually became the executive chauffeur for the company's top executives in Linden, New Jersey. After retiring from General Motors in 1989, Charles and his beloved wife, Marilyn, relocated to Florida, where they have resided since 1990.
Even in retirement, Charles continued to stay active. He joined the team at Maroone Car Dealership, where he worked as a courtesy van driver for many years, finally retiring at the age of 80.
A man of faith, Charles was a longtime member of St. John's Russian Orthodox Church in Rahway, where he and his family worshiped for many years. He remained active in his community as a proud member of the American Legion Post 5 in Rahway.
Charles was a lifelong sports enthusiast. He participated in bowling and golf leagues during his years with General Motors and remained an avid sports fan throughout his life. After moving to Florida, he became a devoted Miami Dolphins supporter, never missing a Sunday game and often attending in person. He also enjoyed watching basketball and remained a loyal New York Yankees fan.
Above all, Charles's greatest joy was his family. He will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and the love he shared with those around him. His family fondly remembers his playful sense of humor, his kind heart, and his unwavering devotion to providing a better life for those he loved.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Marilyn Mazur, with whom he celebrated their golden anniversary this past August; his three stepchildren, Anthony DeCosimo, Renée Zarelli and her husband Tony, and Michelle DeCosimo; five cherished grandchildren, Charles, Nicolina, Brielle, Will, and Anthony; three nieces; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his son, John N Mazur, and his sister, Mariann Kochan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard,
