Adele Simola Yeiser Obituary YEISER, ADELE ANN ~
Adele Ann Yeiser, née Simola of West Nyack, NY, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, one day short of her 98th birthday. Adele was a resident of West Nyack for over 70 years. The daughter of Hungarian immigrants, Charles and Anna (née Havjar) Simola, Adele was born and raised in Rahway, New Jersey. Adele's father and uncle were founding members of the American Hungarian Citizens Club of Rahway. The Hungarian Club was an important part of growing up many celebrations were held there, including Adele and Charles William Yeiser, Jr.'s (Bill's) 1951 wedding reception. Adele's Hungarian heritage was a source of pride throughout her life.
Adele was an accomplished dress designer, seamstress, interior designer, and landscape/garden designer. To her family, friends, and business associates, she was known for bringing beauty, grace, humor, and genuine appreciation to everyone and everything she touched.
Adele was a graduate of Rahway High School, Class of 1945. After graduating from Rahway High School, Adele was employed as a typist at 57 Wall Street with Hawkins, Delafield, and Wood. After two years as a typist, Adele quit her job and set off with her best friend Joyce to visit Adele's father, who wintered in Miami, Florida. While in Miami, Adele and Joyce spontaneously responded to an ad for a flight to Cuba, and they spent a few adventure-filled days and nights in Havana, Cuba.
Upon returning from Havana, Adele enrolled at Pratt Institute, earning a degree in Costume Design in 1948. Adele met her husband-to-be (Bill) while commuting, by train, from Rahway to Brooklyn. Upon graduating from Pratt, Adele worked in the garment district as the lead designer for an Armenian design firm. Adele and Bill married in 1951 and moved to West Nyack in 1954--not long before the Tappan Zee Bridge was completed.
In 1960, Adele left her job in the garment district to care for Elizabeth, Adele and Bill's first child; even as a young mother, Adele continued to pursue her passion, fashion design. When Elizabeth was just two months old, Adele was encouraged to seek employment with Clare Potter, a Coty award-winning fashion designer who moved her Manhattan firm, Timbertop, to a barn in West Nyack. As Vogue explained in 1948, Potter lived "the kind of life for which she designs, most successfully, clothes not of the city or the country, but with an affinity for both, clothes with a trick of looking equally well at resorts, polo games, or in town." Adele and Clare Potter worked closely together for two years until just after her son, Charles, was born. Adele and Bill's friendship with Clare and Sandy Potter would last well over 30 years, once Clare and her husband, J. Sanford Potter retired to Lake Nebo in the Adirondacks, the Yeiser family would spend time in the winter and summer at "The Cove" on Lake Nebo. In addition to being the mother of two children, Adele found time to support both Bill's gallery business, the FAR Gallery in Manhattan, and to custom-design clothing for private clients.
Starting in the late 1970s, Adele went to work for Macy's as a "shop-at-home" designer. She specialized in draperies and slipcovers and traveled far and wide with her heavy fabric sample books. Her customers were so impressed with Adele's eye for interior design that Adele would start her own small business called "Adele Interiors". Adele finished her career at Macy's as a personal shopper in the dress department.
After Bill's death in 2005, Adele pursued new challenges and interests. Despite losing her sight in one eye, Adele continued to contribute to the community through her creativity as a gardener. In 2006, Adele became active in the Garden Club of Nyack; one of her favorite duties was maintaining the Butterfly Garden near the Hudson River. In 2008, Adele achieved "master gardener" status through the Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener program. In addition to these activities, Adele joined a Morning Study Group and became an avid participant in Yoga classes. Before COVID, one was unlikely to find Adele at home! During COVID, Adele (in her early 90s) mastered using the computer to stay connected to friends, and she became an active member of the Rockland County Village Community, a group of well-educated individuals dedicated to helping one another "age in place". Adele participated in weekly Monday morning Zoom meetings with other RCVC group members; she participated in her last Zoom meeting just 2 weeks before she passed away. Adele also used the computer to participate in Silver Sneakers Workouts and Chair Yoga sessions on YouTube, and to find new recipes.
Adele's open heart and grace, her approach to life and aging, and her ability to interact effortlessly with people of all ages were an inspiration to all who had the opportunity to know her.
Adele is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Danahy, and her husband, Thomas, of West Nyack, her son Charles W. Yeiser III and his wife Ruth of Schwenksville, PA. Adele is also survived by her three grandsons, Ian Danahy, Aaron, and Benjamin Yeiser. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles William Yeiser II (Bill). A wake for Adele will be held on Thursday, May 1st, at the "Family Owned" Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home in West Nyack, NY. Visiting Hours will begin at 2:00 PM, with a service following at 5 PM.
Adele will be interred with her husband Bill on June 9, 2025 (their 74th Wedding Anniversary) at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack, NY. The internment service will be private.
The Yeiser family would like to thank all of the caregivers who helped Adele stay in her home until she took her very last breath. The family would like to thank Corrine (Gladys), Adele's companion for three years who cared for her with kindness and compassion, and James, her Hospice nurse, who treated Adele with respect and grace so that she could maintain her dignity, and spend her last days in the home she loved surrounded by those who mattered most to her.

REMEMBER ME To the living, I am gone, To the sorrowful, I will never return, To the angry, I was cheated, But to the happy, I am at peace, And to the faithful, I have never left. I cannot speak, but I can listen. I cannot be seen, but I can be heard. So as you stand upon a shore gazing at a beautiful sea, As you look upon a ower and admire its simplicity, Remember me. Remember me in your heart: Your thoughts and your memories, Of the times we loved, The times we cried, The times we fought, The times we laughed. For if you always think of me, I will never have gone. ~Margaret Mead
