Gregory Eugene Derk, 63, of Lewisburg, tragically and unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on May 29, 1962, in Lewisburg, the son of Ronald E. Derk of Lewisburg and the late Bonnie Lou (Klinger) Derk.
Greg was a graduate of the Lewisburg High School class of 1980 and went on to attend the Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing.
He was a registered nurse, having worked at Evangelical Community Hospital, Central Pennsylvania Eye Center, and nursing homes in Williamsport and Sunbury. Greg was loved by his coworkers, and found great pride and purpose in his job. Most would say, “He was a great guy who would do anything he could for anyone.”
Greg enjoyed going on hunting and fishing trips with family. He looked forward to deer season at his cabin every year, in sickness or health this was his one simple joy. In his younger days he enjoyed playing softball and football. He was an avid Penn State Football and Wrestling fan.
He loved spending time with his daughter and granddaughter, who made all his worries disappear. He frequently shared stories and photos of their accomplishments with coworkers, friends, and family. They were the center of his world, his pride and joy, every single moment with them brought him immense joy. Greg and his daughter shared a unique bond, full of unconditional love and support for one another.
Despite the many struggles Greg endured in his life, he never asked, “Why me?” He remained a kind-hearted, gentle soul, fighting every battle with unwavering strength. With the support of friends, family, and God’s grace, he was able to fulfill his dream of being there to watch his daughter grow up and have a family of her own.
Surviving in addition to his father, is a daughter, Ashley Derk and her companion Elijah Furman of New Columbia, granddaughter, Ember Maze, and an expected grandchild due in December, two brothers and sister-in-law, Michael and Stacy Derk of Mifflinburg, and Sean Derk of Lewisburg, an Uncle, Dennis Derk, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Family and friends are invited to attend Greg's life celebration service on Thursday, June 19th, at 5:00 pm at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, 2823 Old Turnpike Road, Lewisburg, with Pastor Jamie Bonnet officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 pm until the time of the service.
