Gregory Farry Obituary

Gregory Scott Farry

April 22, 1969 - March 25, 2023

Major Gregory Scott Farry, United States Marine Corps (Retired), passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident that occurred on March 10, 2023.

Greg was born in Buffalo, NY on April 22, 1969. After graduating high school in Glens Falls, Greg went on to graduate from the ROTC Program at the University of Rochester before a career in the Marine Corps.

To all who knew Greg, being a Marine was his only path. Initially an Artillery Officer, Greg switched to the field of Intelligence and served in several deployments- including combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan- during his more than 25 years in the Marines. He was a leader and a warrior and would want to be remembered as a man who loved his country.

Greg is predeceased by his parents, Dr. Gregory and Mrs. Patricia Farry; and leaves behind his beloved son, Daniel Farry of Alfred, NY; his partner and best friend, Eileen Perfette of Ballston Spa; brothers: Tim Farry and Andy Farry and family (spouse, Cathy and son, Ollie); as well as several aunts, an uncle, cousins and a handful of friends who are blessed with the memories that come from a lifelong friendship with an unruly SOB like Greg.

Services will be private, but a gathering and remembrance will be announced at a later date.

Raise a toast to this gallant lad. Semper Fidelis, rest easy Marine.

Greg, I'm speechless, yet I could go on and on. Your many personalities and opinions, but the most passionate was that of a Marine. So full of life, fun, adventure, spontaneity. Once you crossed someone's path, you made your mark and could not be forgotten. Rest in peace my dear friend. You will be missed. Sincerest sympathies to Daniel, such a great kid, and your family. You will stay alive because memories are forever.

I used to babysit Greg and his brothers for a couple of summers. Also, Greg and his brothers would go camping with our family every summer while growing up. Greg always went his own way even as a kid. His brothers would do one thing, he was off on his own doing his own thing. I remember once he asked for a popcorn machine for I think it was Christmas. We all wondered, why did he want that? Well, we soon learned why. He popped popcorn, bagged it up and sold it at school. That was Greg. Thank you for you outstanding service and sacrifice for your country and keeping all of us safe. You will be missed. Hoping I will see you again one day. Love to your family!

Boy, he looks identical to Uncle Greg! Especially in the picture above, next to the other marine (Den)! My memories of him are as an energetic, little boy with beautiful blonde curls running around my grandmother´s backyard at gatherings (like the "Back to School" cookout/races day), babysitting him, Tim and Andy, and going sledding in the winter with them all. I´m proud and thankful of his accomplishments and service/dedication to our country. My thoughts and prayers go out to his son, rest of the family and friends. May you rest in peace Greggie!!

Greg, I have lots of memories of you growing up and how proud I am of you. Being a Marine was your destiny and you were good at it. I will never forget all the fun things we did when all of you were growing up, the Labor Day picnics, the christmas's, camping and all the family get togethers. We always had fun. I want you to know how much you meant to me and will love you forever.

I had the pleasure of serving with Greg on State Active Duty with the NY Naval Militia at the Javits Center in NYC from March through May of 2020 during the darkest days of the COVID outbreak. He continued serving long after I left and truly ranked among our bravest and hardest working military members. His logistics expertise, dedication to duty, and wry sense of humor will be sorely missed.

I still have no words. I will miss you dearly Greg. You were not only our neighbor but were a dear friend. You treated my wife Lucy, our son Colden and baby daughter Ayla as if we were your own family. We will forever cherish the memories we made with you. The bonfires, inviting us into your home, and most recently the holidays we spent with you and Eileen. We are here for anything your loved ones may need. Rest in power Sir! Semper Fidelis.. Adam, Lucy, Colden and Ayla.

I am saddened to hear of the death of a fellow member of the New York Naval Militia. His experience was put to good use at the Javits Center during the COVID-19 outbreak. He has left us too early. My condolences to the family he has left behind.
