Gregory "Greg" Fields, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in
Blackwood, NJ, on August 29, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on October 13, 1952, in Philadelphia, PA, Greg's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and his community.
Greg is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Fields (nee Wennmacher), with whom he shared a deep and enduring love, always reminding her of his affection. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Gina Marie Patel (Giraj), and son, Greg Fields, Jr. (Samantha). His grandchildren, Opal and Odin Patel, brought immense joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Greg was predeceased by his brother, Tony Fields (the late Debbie), and is also survived by his sister, Debbie Hoffman (George), as well as his stepchildren, David Carlamere (Michelle), Michelle DiFranco (Michael), and Steven Carlamere, and step-grandchildren, Joseph, Gabrielle, David, Vincent, Victor, Aaron, and Lillianna.
For over 30 years, Greg served as a security officer at Jefferson University Hospital, formerly known as John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, in the Stratford and Washington Twp., NJ divisions. His commitment to his work was evident in the care and diligence he brought to his role every day until his retirement in 2016. Greg's sense of duty extended beyond his professional life as he was a Life Member of Erial Fire Company Station # 86 for over 24 years and formerly served as a Commissioner with Gloucester Twp. Fire District # 6.
Greg's interests and hobbies were as varied as they were passionate. An avid sports fan, he never missed a game of his beloved Philadelphia sports teams and was a fixture at his grandchildren's sporting events. His love for collecting antique toys was more than a pastime; it was a pursuit that saw him buying and selling treasures on eBay for many years. Greg's love for life's simple pleasures was evident in his enjoyment of hot dogs, Coors Light, and spending time at the pool. He was also known for his love of crabbing with his kids, going to the movies with his favorite popcorn in hand, and planning trips to visit his brother.
Christmas was a special time for Greg, who started planning months in advance for the set-up of his train layout around the Christmas tree, a tradition he enjoyed immensely. His sense of humor was one of his most defining traits, often making him the funniest guy in the room. Greg's ability to bring laughter and lightness to any situation was a gift to all who knew him.
As we say goodbye to Gregory Fields, we celebrate a life lived with laughter, love, and a generous spirit. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness and humor. Greg's life was a testament to the joy that can be found in the everyday and the importance of cherishing every moment with those we love. He will be remembered as a funny, loving, and family man who made the world a brighter place.
