In Loving Memory of Gregory "John Doe" Forever in Our Hearts
With heavy hearts yet grateful spirits, we celebrate the beautiful life of Gregory R. Fortune Jr., lovingly known to all as "John Doe." Born on July 14, 1983, to Gregory R. Fortune Sr. and Pauline A. Fortune, Gregory was a force of nature-full of life, laughter, and an energy that could light up any room. The world became a little brighter from the moment he took his first steps, and that light never dimmed.
Gregory was a man of deep passions and remarkable talents. He had an innate gift for understanding how things worked, taking them apart and putting them back together-whether it was a broken appliance or a life challenge, he always found a way to make things better. His boundless curiosity and determination were just part of what made him extraordinary.
To know Gregory was to witness resilience, joy, and an unwavering spirit. He faced life with an infectious enthusiasm, tackling every obstacle with a fierce will and an even bigger heart. His laughter was the kind that filled a room, his presence one that made you feel at home.
A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, Gregory lived for football Sundays. His love for the game was unmatched, and his playful banter with Washington Commanders fans, whom he jokingly called the "Washington Commodores"-became legendary among family and friends. Those game days were never just about football; they were about connection, camaraderie, and the good-natured teasing that made every moment special.
Gregory found joy in simple pleasures-grilling in the backyard, cracking open crabs, and sharing laughter over delicious meals. His cookouts, made even more special by the love of his life, Anaya Haygood, were never just about food; they were about love, togetherness, and the cherished moments that became the heart of their best memories. But above all, Gregory's greatest joy came from being a granddad. His daughter, Brianna, and grandson, Braelyn, were the center of his world. He embraced his role with the same love and passion that defined his entire life, showering them with wisdom, endless stories, and love that will live on in their hearts forever.
As we say goodbye, we don't mourn alone; we carry his spirit with us. We remember his laughter and warmth and how he made life more joyful for everyone lucky enough to know him. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his love remains, his legacy endures, and his light will never fade.
Rest easy, Gregory. You are deeply loved, and your stars will always shine brightly in our hearts.
