Barbara Jean Hurlburt

Barbara Jean Hurlburt, 69, a longtime resident of Indian Head, MD, passed away on February 2, 2026.

She was born to Joseph L. Thompson and Helen A. Thompson on October 17, 1956. Barbara Jean was a homemaker and enjoyed her cat, Luna, and sharing stories of her. She had a passion for babysitting her nephews, Scott, Christian, and Nicholas Elder, and other children over the years.

She enjoyed going shopping and dining with her husband, Steve. She also looked forward to celebrating holidays with family, especially Christmas!

She is being remembered by her husband, Steve Hurlburt, and daughter, Wendy Hurlburt; her sisters, Bonnie Croston, June Elder Cornett; her nieces, Robin Bussert, Stacy Spaulding (Mike), Wendy Booth (Wayne); nephews, Ritchie Elder, Rusty Gilroy; and great nephews and nieces and several cousins.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Hurlburt, and daughter, Wendy Hurlburt. Barbara shared a strong bond with her husband for over 50 years.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph L. Thompson and Helen A. Thompson; sister, Deborah Gilroy; brother, Joseph L. Thompson III; granddaughter, Madelyn T. Wallace; and brothers-in-law, Bob Croston and Ron Cornett.
