Gregory A. Lair, 70 of New Boston, died Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Unity Point Health, Trinity Rock Island. Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 5th at 11:00 AM at Faith Chapel, Joy, Illinois. A time of fellowship will follow services in the church hall. Memorials may be made to the Lair family. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family.

Greg was born on July 4, 1955, in Monmouth, Illinois to Clarence F. “John” & Mary (Sandrock) Lair. He married Laura Frieden on May 30, 1980, at the New Boston Assembly of God Church.

Greg was a man of the outdoors from his work to his recreation. Greg retired from the Local #150 Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. He also worked for Keith Frieden Excavating in his early years, and again after retirement helping out on the farm. Greg loved to go fishing or hunting for either deer or mushrooms. He cherished the time spent with his grandsons, Kash and Jase and was a member of Faith Chapel in Joy.

Greg’s legacy will be carried on by his wife, Laura; son and daughter-in-law, Matt & Nikki Lair and his beloved grandsons, Kash and Jase. He is also survived by a brother, Clarence F. “Fred” (Julie) Lair, Jr and step-siblings: Randy (Becky) Gibb, Sheila Sly and Dick (Erin) Gibb and the extended Frieden Family. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Bonnie Lair and a sister, Karen Clough.
