Gregory Joseph Honey, 75, of Fredonia, Arizona, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025. Born on October 7, 1950, in
Kanab, Utah, Greg grew up in the close-knit community of southern Utah, where he developed the strong work ethic, generosity, and steady character that would define his entire life. Greg married the love of his life, Hazel Sue (Mackelprang), on July 17, 1971. Together they built a life rooted in devotion, family, and service to others. Not long after their marriage, they settled in Fredonia, Arizona, where they raised their four children and created a home filled with love, loyalty, and purpose.
For over 30 years, Greg worked as a millwright and in management for Kaibab Industries, where he was respected for his dependability, leadership, and dedication. After his years at Kaibab, Greg went on to manage Lumber Plus, the local hardware and lumber store owned by his younger brother, Teril Honey. Greg managed the store from the mid-1990s until his retirement in 2023. His work at Lumber Plus allowed him to do what he loved most - helping others. Whether answering questions, finding the right tool, or offering practical advice, Greg made the store a welcoming place for the entire community.
Greg was known for his tremendous generosity and constant willingness to help anyone who needed it - home repairs, welding jobs, plumbing problems, or simply a bit of guidance. He loved horses, team roping, hunting, and spending hours working in his shop and yard. He took pride in working with his hands and found joy in being useful. To his family, Greg was a guiding force - wise, steady, and deeply loving. He shared an especially close bond with his only son, Gregory Kirk, with whom he worked, roped, and built a lifetime of memories. Greg also adored his daughters - Kimley, Heather, and Erica - and took tremendous pride in the strong, capable women they became. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his grandchildren, whom he loved deeply. Whether telling stories, giving advice, or simply being present, his grandchildren brought him great joy, and he cherished every moment with them.
Greg is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hazel Sue Mackelprang Honey; his children Gregory Kirk Honey, Kimley (Matt) Roseann Purvis, Heather Lieuwen Honey, and Erica Violet (Cody) May; his siblings Burton Honey, Brian Honey, Teril Honey, and Lisa King; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Arthur Honey and JoAnn Honey.
