Gregory Scott James, age 66 of Mt.Orab, Ohio passed away Monday, September 15, 2025 at the Hospice of Hope Inpatient Care Center at Adams County Regional Medical Center. He was born August 3, 1959 in Fairfax County, Virginia the son of Charles Ronald James of Eastgate, Ohio and the late Norma Sue (Miller) James. A dedicated member of his community and a family man, Gregory left an indelible mark on the lives he touched throughout his journey. A proud 1977 graduate of Clermont North Eastern High School, Gregory exemplified a commitment to education that carried through into his professional career. For 47 years, he served as a pipeline inspector for Duke Energy, ensuring the safety and integrity of energy supplies in the region. His work was characterized by his meticulous attention to detail and a steadfast dedication to excellence, earning him the respect of his colleagues and the community. Gregory was actively involved in various organizations that showcased his passion for youth development and animal care. He was a former Cub Scout Master in Mt. Orab, Ohio, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of young boys, guiding them through their formative years with patience and care. Gregory was also a member of the Brown County Small Animal Department, contributing his knowledge and expertise to ensure the welfare of animals in the community. Additionally, as a 4H leader for the Mt. Orab Renegades, he inspired countless young individuals to develop skills, foster friendships, and grow within the agricultural domain. His legacy of service will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. Gregory's contributions to his community and his unwavering commitment to the organizations he served showcase a life lived with purpose and integrity. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives were positively impacted by his dedication and spirit. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents – Maggie and Harvey Miller; paternal grandparents – Yolanda and Aloysius Traurig and stepmother – Linda James-Burklee.
In addition to his father, Mr. James is survived by his loving wife of 25 years – Cynthia (Sczynski) James; six children – Stephanie Hitt and husband Tony of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, Jennifer James of Grant County, Kentucky, Andrea Davis and husband Larry of Germantown, Kentucky, Megan Whyle and husband Zak of Lebanon, Ohio, Jonathon James and Justin James both of Mt. Orab, Ohio; five sisters – Lisa Mercer of Blue Ash, Ohio, Sharon Detmer and husband Jim of Cincinnati, Ohio, Melissa Tellep and husband John of Owensville, Ohio, Christine Thomas of Amelia, Ohio and Kylie James of Eastgate, Ohio; eleven grandchildren – Paige Chaney, Kaylee Wheeler, Jacob Ledford, Mason Davis, Lleyton Poe, Brinson Davis, Aryanna Davis and Gunnar, Levi, Noel and Jace Bitzer; five great grandchildren - Kayden Wheeler, Elijah Wheeler, Ethan, Aubrey and Brittain Chaney and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 P.M. Friday, September 19, 2025 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Mt.Orab, Ohio. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
