Gregory Krause Obituary

Published by Mission Funeral Home - North Side (Austin-Peel & Son Chapel) on Mar. 13, 2014.
Gregory Branche Krause was born in Bedford, Texas on April 5, 1984 to Dean and Nancy Krause. He grew up in Amarillo and Albuquerque, before returning to Bedford as a teenager. Greg graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006 and entered the class of 2010 at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He graduated, then completed a general pediatrics residence at Dell Children's in Austin. Greg's greatest source of joy was his family, and on July 6, 2012 he proudly began his own by marrying Amy Marie Ronan. Greg and Amy met at the hospital where she is a pediatric critical care nurse, and had begun building their life together in Austin with the shared enjoyment of dear friends, hands-on home improvement, backyard farming, and the raising of one very large dog. Greg's keen mind, creative eye, wry humor and compassionate spirit made every day an opportunity for him to learn, laugh and serve others – and he did that so very well! Greg's accidental death in the prime of life is a devastating blow to all who knew and loved him. Greg's loss is felt most deeply by Amy his wife, parents Dean and Nancy, sisters Sarah Yarbrough (Paul) Margaret Jung (Mark) and their children Amelia, Adela and George. Greg's extended family includes grandparents Pat and Pete Krause, Ron and Cathie Wortham and Amy's parents Jim and Marie Ronan. Greg was preceded in death by beloved grandmother Sue Wortham in 2008. A huge extended family is grieving the loss of Greg, as well as many caring and devoted friends and colleagues. The family is grateful for the kindness and expert care they received at Brackenridge Hospital as they waited for confirmation from the transplant team. Greg's death has given new life to several grateful recipients through organ donation as he wished. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to St Baldrick's Foundation (stbaldricks.org), a childhood cancer charity dear to Greg's heart, or to one of choice. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-8pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6pm, and on Wednesday from 8 to 8pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Thursday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church 120 W. Oltorf St in Austin with a reception immediately following.

Greg was at Dell to meet us as we brought in our little 3-month-old son, Wyatt, who was recovering from open-heart surgery. His unconventional bedside manner was unforgettable- to my husband and to me he felt more like an old friend or a brother than a resident. He immediately set us at ease and helped us understand what we should expect from the coming days. I am so sorry to hear of his death, I can't imagine the loss you feel. Thank you for the gift that Greg was to my son and to my whole family.

The Krause family, I am deeply sadded to hear of your loss. I have only know Greg & Amy for a short time, but the time (I had the pleasure of attending their wedding - Greg & Amy live across the street from my Mother & Grandmother) that was spent with them & their family will always hold a special place in my heart. Greg may you rest on peace.

To Amy and the Krause family, our family grieves the loss of your beautiful, wonderful son and husband. Greg and my son Jordan were classmates at Texas and UTMB. We met at the White Coat ceremony and subsequently spent many good times together at lunch where we would gather at the Mosquito. Greg was delightful, funny, charming, smart and wonderful company...a wonderful human being in every respect. We will always remember him for all his fine qualities and mourn his passing. It is impossible to know the sorrow you all feel, and I wish I could just hug you right now. We feel devastated for you all. We are keeping you in our prayers and thoughts.
