Gregory Myers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheenan Funeral Home - Dunellen on Feb. 11, 2026.
Gregory Thomas Myers, age 57, beloved husband of Maryanne P. Myers of Dunellen, passed away suddenly on February 8, 2026 in Dunellen.

Greg Myers lived his life the way he did everything: full throttle, loud, organized, fiercely loving, and completely himself. Born to Ted and Shirley, Greg grew up with a natural mechanical mind and a drive that would shape his future. He began his training at Piscataway Vo-Tech, where he discovered what would become not just a career, but a true calling. From the moment he stepped into the HVAC trade, he knew he had found his passion. He often said that if he could do the work for free, he would. That was Greg: when he loved something, he gave it everything. In 1986, Greg met Mare. From that point on, where one was, the other was too. They grew up side by side, building a partnership rooted in loyalty, humor, resilience, and deep love. In 1993, they were married, beginning 33 years of marriage that they proudly celebrated just last month. Island Dragway in Great Meadows, NJ became Greg's second home. As a young man, he went there with his dad, learning the rhythm and roar of race day. Later, he brought his own children into that world, passing down not just a love of racing but a sense of belonging. All three of his kids had their first jobs at the track. Whether racing, organizing the support trailer, cooking for the team, or making his famous lists, Greg poured himself into it. Even in years without his own race team, he and Mare showed up - supporting, helping, and caring for everyone around them. Then came the moments that defined him most: becoming a father. In 2000, Greg welcomed his first child, his daughter Cora - almost in church, as many lovingly remember the story. She was named after his beloved grandmother, Cora, a tribute to the family roots he held so close to his heart. From that day on, he wore fatherhood proudly. Cora inherited his voice, his strength, and yes, his attitude - something he secretly (and not so secretly)
loved. He later welcomed his son Theo, named after his own father, a tribute that reflected Greg's deep respect for family and legacy. And finally came Patrick, named in honor of his mother's brother, carrying forward another piece of the family's story. Theo and Patrick are stronger men for having known their father. They carry his grit, his work ethic, his loyalty, and his unwillingness to back down. He showed them what it meant to stand firm, to protect your family, and to love without holding anything back. His example will guide them for the rest of their lives. Each child strengthened him. Fatherhood wasn't just a chapter of his life - it was the center of it. In 2012, after becoming a father and with his children watching everything he did, Greg chose to serve in another powerful way: he became a volunteer firefighter. He wanted his kids to see what it meant to step up when others stepped back. When the alarm sounded, he went - no matter the hour, no matter the weather. Whether it meant leaving a warm bed in the middle of the night or walking away from the dinner table, he answered the call. He brought strength, courage, and steadiness to the firehouse, just as he did at home. Serving his community wasn't about recognition; it was about protecting his neighbors and leading by example. In 2022, Patrick followed in his father's footsteps and became a firefighter himself - a decision rooted in pride, love, and the desire to honor the man who showed him what bravery and service truly look like. It was one of Greg's proudest moments, seeing his son carry forward that same commitment to protecting others. In 2024, Theo carried forward another piece of his father's legacy when he got his own race car. Greg had spent years teaching him the rhythm of the track - how to listen to the engine, how to trust his instincts, how to respect the power beneath his hands. Watching Theo step into his own driver's seat was more than a milestone; it was the continuation of a passion that began generations before him. The roar of Theo's car now echoes the lessons, pride, and love his father poured into him. He was the rock of his family, as strong as steel, protective and outspoken, yet endlessly devoted. He fought through injuries and life's challenges with determination because his children were watching, and he wanted them to see resilience, courage, and heart. That fierce love was something he learned early. One night, after an argument with his mom, Greg couldn't sleep. In true Greg fashion, he ran all the way home in the middle of the night just to kiss her goodnight and make sure she knew he loved her. That was who he was. He could be loud, stubborn, and strong-willed - but love always won. Greg loved fiercely and loudly, much like the roar of his beloved 1969 Chevy Camaro, the Myers Family race car. The Camaro, his and Mare's first "baby," was transformed last year into a stunning piece of mechanical brilliance. It reflected him: powerful, precise, and impossible to ignore. His family will continue racing it in his honor, carrying his legacy down the track. If you ever met Greg, you know he voiced his opinion, laughed boldly, and was unapologetically and "violently himself." There wasn't anyone he wouldn't help. He gave without hesitation and loved without limits. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mare; his children, Cora, Theo, and Patrick; his loving parents, Ted and Shirley; his brother Chris and sister-in-law Cynthia; and friends who became family: Tracey and John Hedenburg; Harry, Jackie, and Matt Gerb; Jack, Sue, and John Alloway, along with many other cherished friends and extended family members. Greg leaves behind a legacy measured not in years, but in impact. His strength lives on in his children. His loyalty lives on in his marriage. His courage lives on in the community he served - and in the son who now serves in his place. His passion lives on at the track - in the engines that still roar in his family's name. And his love lives on in all of us. Greg Myers was truly a force to be reckoned with, and he will be missed beyond words. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Sunday, February 15th from 4 - 8PM at Sheenan Funeral Home, Dunellen, and Monday morning, February 16th from 10:15 AM to 10:45 AM which will be followed by his 11:00 AM funeral mass at St Bernard & St. Stanislaus RC Church. Interment will be private.
