Gregory John Patterson, 93, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025 after a brief illness.
Greg was born on October 13, 1932, in
Winston Salem, NC, the third son of John and Helen Patterson. His parents both came to the US from Greece early in the 20th century and raised their family in the Greek community, first in Winston Salem and then in Greensboro.
Greg had a very sharp mind and quick wit. He was self-reliant and also ready to help others in any way he could. He always asked people to tell him about themselves, and he remembered every detail. He held onto his independence for as long as he could. Even in the last days of his life, he preferred helping others to allowing them to help him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Fotini (Florence); his daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Chuck Wile of
Irmo, SC; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Jana Patterson of Elon, NC; his grandsons, Justin Goodman and Gregory Patterson II; and step-granddaughters Jennifer Rubin and Amy Wile. He is also survived by his younger brother, Charles Patterson of
Greensboro, NC; sister-in-law, Vasiliki Patterson and nephew, John Patterson; step-daughter, Emily Tsonis and her husband and children Fanis, George, and Fotinoula; and step-son, Jimmy Prentzas, all of Greece.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, his older brothers, Nick and Gus; his first wife, Corky; and his life-long best friend, George Cranford.
