Greg Roberts
February 25, 1953 - January 27, 2026
Greg Roberts was born on February 25, 1953, in
Bertha, MN, to Marvin and Dorothy (Beckman) Roberts. After the early loss of his father, Greg was raised with the support of his stepfather, Ray Dahle, who became an important part of the family.
Greg attended grade school in Tintah and Wendell, MN, and graduated from Elbow Lake High School, where he wrestled and qualified for state. He earned a degree in Electronics from Wadena Vocational Technical College in 1973 and began a long career in communications, maintenance, and engineering. Greg started working for 3M in Hutchinson, Minnesota, on January 5, 1974, and spent 35 years with 3M and Imation Corporation, retiring from the Wahpeton plant on September 20, 2009. He worked on projects across the country and internationally, earning multiple invention and patent records along the way. Known as a hard worker, Greg believed in doing the job right and giving his best effort, no matter the task.
On June 23, 1973, Greg married Debra Strom, and together they built a life centered on family. Greg showed his love through service-he was always the first to help a family member in need and never hesitated to lend his skills or time. He rarely missed a game, concert, or event for his children, and that same commitment carried on with his grandchildren. It was not unusual for Greg to have to choose between multiple grandchildren's activities on the same day, often deciding based on who was older and nearing the end of eligibility. Being present mattered to him.
Greg deeply cherished time spent at the lake home he and Deb built on Otter Tail Lake in Minnesota. Fishing was one of his greatest joys, especially with his brothers Wayne and Steve, his son Chris, and his grandchildren. Greg loved hosting family gatherings at the lake and was often described as the glue that kept the extended family connected. Known for his unique sense of humor, he enjoyed teasing his nieces and nephews, many of whom still go by the nicknames he gave them.
Greg was deeply proud of his grandchildren and believed strongly in the importance of education. He was excited to watch them grow, head off to college, and see where life would take them, knowing they had opportunities he himself did not. His final major project was building his son Nathan's lake home, where he worked side by side with his sons, daughter in-law and grandchildren-always outworking each of them.
Greg is survived by his wife, Debra; children, Chris (Shawn) Roberts, Nathan (Tara) Roberts, and Nichole (Jon) Bogenreif; grandchildren, Collin, Sydni, Cooper, Wil, Alex, Cam, Carlie (Sam), Reagan, Addison, and Brooklyn; and great-grandson, Henry. He is also survived by his siblings, Patricia Petermann, Wayne (Deb) Roberts, Steve (Pam) Roberts, Doug Dahle, and Karla Winter, along with many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Dorothy Roberts; stepfather, Ray Dahle; brothers, Frank and Robert Roberts; and sister, Donna.
Greg will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather-a man who worked hard, showed up for his family, and quietly served others through his actions.
