Gregory "Smitty" Smith, a cherished resident of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on Tuesday, February 3, 1959, in Evansville, IN. Smitty was a remarkable individual known for his kindness, passion, and extraordinary ability to craft stories that captivated all who were fortunate enough to hear them.
Smitty attended Bosse High School in Evansville, IN, which set the foundation for his remarkable life. Professionally, he was employed as a stage hand, where he contributed his expertise and dedication to some of the most iconic bands in the rock music world, including the Rolling Stones and Mötley Crüe. His behind-the-scenes work brought countless performances to life, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
An Eagle Scout in his youth, Smitty exemplified the Scout values of loyalty and integrity throughout his life. He had a profound love for muscle cars, an interest he passionately pursued through his beloved 1984 Fox Body Cougar. This immaculately maintained vehicle, with its custom dashboard and unique features, garnered him numerous accolades at car shows over the years.
Smitty was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing whenever he had the opportunity. His taxidermy collection, exclusively taken with compressed air rifles, was a testament to his respect for wildlife and his commitment to ethical sportsmanship.
Above all else, Smitty's friends and family were his greatest treasures. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ronald Smith and Marsha Swain. He is survived by his beloved son, Kolton Norton, who will carry forward his father's legacy of passion and kindness.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172). Friends and family are invited to celebrate Smitty's life and share in the countless stories that made him such a remarkable individual. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local scouting organization, honoring Gregory's lifelong dedication to the principles of scouting.
Gregory Smith will be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him, his incredible storytelling, and his unwavering love for his family and friends. May his memory continue to inspire us all.
