Gregory Steve Williams

1953 - 2026

Gregory Steve Williams, 72, passed away 01/01/2026 at a local hospital. Born 8/17/53, son of the late Charles Raymond Williams and Margaret Mardean "Dean" Brackett Williams. Also preceded in death by his brother, James Wesley Williams. A graduate of Coosa High School in Rome, Steve studied at Shorter College before joining the United States Army, proudly serving 11 years active service stationed in Korea, Germany, Kentucky and Georgia. Then he continued 18 years in the reserve forces, including war time in Iraq, during which he found a passion for helping others and began his 30 year career as a Registered Nurse at Floyd Hospital in the Oncology, Intensive Care, and Emergency Care Units working 12 hour night shifts saving lives and helping countless people. In his spare time Steve's favorite pastime was playing golf with his parents, brothers, cousins and nephews and being a devoted father, grandfather and great -grandfather. He babysat grandchildren daily for many years and cheered them on from the sidelines at thousands of ball games, concerts and recitals. He made sure each grandchild had swimming lessons and took them swimming several times a week during the summer. He loved to travel and enjoyed treating his children and grandchildren to vacations, zoo trips, circuses, and aquarium visits. Steve was a member of the Baptist faith and worked closely with his wife as a member of DIGS, an organization that aids adults with disabilities. Steve loved spending time with his family and supper club with friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Mary Inez Ramirez Fellers Williams, two daughters; Cassandra Kristine Williams Humphries (Ben), Deveney Kaye Williams Holden (Tommy), two brothers; Wayne Williams (Gail), and Mike Williams (Melinda), stepson; Noah Fellars (Amy), grandchildren; Brittany Hobbs (John, "Trippe"), Catherine "Caitlin" Taylor ( Jacob, "JT"), Jasmine Forsyth, Madison Holden, Abbyann Frank (Devon), John Humphries, Thomas Holden III, and Kimberly Johnson, great-grandchildren; Allison Taylor, Camden Hobbs, Averie Hobbs, Holden Taylor, Damian Forsyth, Aria Johnson, and Jenson Johnson, former wife Dela Cantrell Williams, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Lawrence Preserve, 127 Winding Road, Rome GA, 30165
