Gretchen Cummings Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 19, 2026.
Gretchen Marie Cummings, age 57 of Whittemore, Michigan, passed away on February 16, 2026, at her home. She was born on July 30th, 1968, in Tawas City, MI, to the late Harold and Iloma (Houseman) Anderson. Gretchen was one of three children.

Growing up, Gretchen enjoyed camping, ran hurdles in track and had great fun in the ski and debate clubs. She also played the trombone in the high school band. Gretchen graduated summa cum laude from Adrian College and also attended American University in Washington D.C. She worked for the Environmental Protection Agency and was awarded a meritorious civilian achievement medal from the agency. Gretchen was a diehard Detroit Lions fan. She loved to camp and to swim in the waves at Lake Michigan. She enjoyed playing the piano. One of her favorite hymns was It is well with my soul. Her faith was a great source of strength throughout her life.

Gretchen is survived by her brother, Duane (Tammy) Anderson of Choctaw, OK; sister, Christa (Tim) Mullaly of Collierville, TN; nieces and nephews that she loved dearly, Dylan, Levi, Lauren, Riley, John, David, and Rachel. Her aunts, uncles, and cousins also held a special place in her heart. Finally, she was blessed by the kindness and love of friends at Whittemore Square Apartments. A private memorial service will take place at a later date.
