Gretchen B. Nesky, 81, of Glen Head, NY, passed away with dignity and grace in her home on the evening of July 5, 2024.
She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth, devoted mother to Christian (Lan), and a loving grandma to Andrew. She leaves behind not only her cherished family but is survived by her sisters-in-law, Doris Petrella (the late Anthony) and Jean (the late Steve), adored nieces and nephews, including her very special niece, Wendy B. Day, and many dear friends who brought her much joy and laughter. Gretchen will be remembered for her kind spirit, sparkling smile, charming character, everlasting class, grace, and wit, as well as her sportsmanship on and off the tennis and pickleball courts. She had a sly strategic skill at the Bridge and Mahjong tables and enjoyed daily walks with her best friend, Tootsie the rescue dog. Tootsie was her trusted companion who brought her comfort as she neared the end of her journey. Gretchen shared immeasurable good times with her friend and neighbor, Sue. The two would take leisurely rides to different lunch spots and share a common pastime of rooting for their favorite baseball team, the Mets!
There will be a small, intimate service for those closest to Gretchen to honor her life. She didn't wish for anyone to make a fuss over her, as she valued each of you while here in this world and hopes that you will all keep a happy memory of her near and dear to your hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Glen Cove Animal League or Animal Rescue. Her parting wish was just for us all to spread kindness.
