Grover Lee Pettes JR.
This is Monjah Pettes
Grover Lee Pettes Jr. also known as Junior, Top Cat, Alley Cat, and June Bug were some of the names people called him. He was called to rest on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, in his home. He was born on November 5th, 1946, in Las Cruces to Grover Pettes SR and Laura Wright Pettes.
He had five siblings: Shirley Daniels (Sister), Delores Webb (Sister), Steven Pettes (Brother), Marilyn Hill (Sister), Isabella Casanova.
He married Gloria Etta Williams in San Diego, CA. They were married for 50 years until she was called to rest in 2007. They had four children: Gerald Lee Pettes (deceased), Monjah Pettes-Settles (Steve), Clay Pettes Sr (Michelle), Taisha Cox (Orangie) all currently in Las Cruces, NM.
Grover JR had twelve grandchildren: Kaelani and Kiana Trujillo-Pettes (Gerald). Shaquelle and Tariq Pettes. Jamacia and Lyric Settles (Monjah). Abel, Angel, and Prince Perry. And Clay Pettes Jr. and Brittney Willoughby (Clay Sr).
There were countless others we acknowledged as his nieces and nephews. Such as Kenya Williams and all her family.
Grover was preceded in death by his parents Grover SR and Laura Pettes, his wife Gloria, his son Gerald, Darrel Daniel’s (nephew), Sidney Hill (nephew), Todd Allen Jr (nephew) Dewayne Perez (nephew).
Grover was a very family-oriented man. Who valued hard work and loyalty. He lived for his family as a constant reminder that things can always be worse. He taught his family to live and never settled. A motto that will be echoed throughout his legacy. Grover Jr “Pops” was well loved by the San Diego and Las Cruces community and will forever be missed.
Services will be held at Getz Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, October 17, 2025 beginning with visitation at 10:30 am and followed by Funeral Services at 11:00am Burial will take place following at Masonic Cemetery.
