Gurrusenda M. Ocanas

Gurrusenda M. Ocanas, age 95 of Temple, passed from this life Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 27, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Gurrusenda was born on January 13, 1930, in Jones Prairie, Texas. She married the love of her life, Santiago Ocanas, and devoted herself to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She found joy in cooking, caring for her family, and sharing her faith as a devoted Catholic. Gurrusenda loved to dance, treasured time with her grandchildren, and was especially known for making the very best molle, a dish her family will always remember with love. She was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her father, Emilio F. Pinon, and his wife, Maria L. Mosqueda; husband, Santiago Ocanas; brother, Antonio Pinon; and sisters, Josie, Dorothy, Susie, Carmen, and Ramona.

Left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Frank Pinon and Manuel Pinon; sister, Jane Juarez; sons, Jimmy Ocanas and Joe Ocanas; daughter, Martha Duarte; and three beloved grandchildren, Daniel Duarte, D’Ann Sanchez, and Jimmy John Ocanas.

Gurrusenda will be remembered as a kindhearted woman whose love, faith, and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
