Mrs. Gussie Pearl Jones, age 89, a native and lifelong resident of Fort Valley in Peach County, peacefully transitioned from this life due to natural causes. She was born on October 9, 1936, in Fort Valley, Georgia.
Gussie was educated in the local school system and graduated from Hunt High School. Determined and compassionate, she pursued a career in nursing, attending nursing school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She later achieved her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Georgia. Continuing her dedication to serving others, she advanced her career as a psychiatric health nurse at Georgia Regional Hospital.
As she entered this new chapter in her professional life, she was lovingly supported by her husband, Solomon Kendrick Jr.. She was later remarried to Louis Flournoy.
A faithful and devoted member of Cathedral Of Faith COGIC, Gussie served diligently as an usher and as a respected Church Mother. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She read her Bible faithfully and carried herself with grace, wisdom, and strength.
Gussie had a great sense of humor and always wore a beautiful smile. She truly loved the outdoors—planting her garden, fishing, and farming brought her joy. She cared deeply for animals, including two cows affectionately named “Barbie” and “Ken” by her granddaughter Jasmine, and her cherished pet bird, “Tiger.”
She enjoyed cooking, singing, dancing, and listening to all types of music. An adventurous spirit, Gussie loved to travel and explored many places around the world, including Jerusalem, Paris, Amsterdam, Germany, and Egypt, along with many other destinations. She also enjoyed quiet moments completing crossword puzzles.
Gussie leaves to cherish her loving memory: her sons, Kenneth Kendrick (Ryann) and Solomon Kendrick “Victor” (Roberta); her brother, Larry Jones; her grandchildren, Arealous Kendrick, Jasmine Kendrick, and McKenzie Kendrick; her nieces, Gussie Pearl Jones, Gretta Ann Jones, Elena Jones, Andrea Cosby, and Tetse; and her nephews, Sammie Haugabook, Larry Terry Jones, Eric Jones, Greg Jones, Michael Cosby, and Henry Cosby.
Mrs. Gussie Pearl Jones will be remembered for her unwavering faith, compassionate heart, joyful spirit, and the love she poured into her family, church, and community. Her legacy of service and devotion will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
