Gustav W. John, 91, of Westlake, formerly of Magdeburg, Germany passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, July 23, 2022. Gustav was born on January 6, 1931 to Wilhelm Hermann Gustav John and Hilma Auguste Ottilie (Boker) in Kiel, Germany.
Gustav worked for over thirty years at Dairymens as a production manager. He would leave his job at Dairymens daily and head to his second job at the family business, Keil and Krist Furniture Store in Parma Heights. He was a hard worker and could fix anything. Gustav enjoyed woodworking and watching soccer and drag racing. He was a baker in his early years in Germany and would treat his family to delicious cakes and breads throughout the years. He was most famous for his Stollen and Feather Cakes. Gustav always had a smile on his face and he will be dearly missed by his loving family.
In 2019 Gustav's true love, Sonja died after a lengthy illness, together they made a beautiful family who take comfort knowing that Gustav and Sonja are together again. Their beloved family includes children, Margaret Erickson (the late Tom), Roy (Sandra) and Richard (Julia); grandchildren, Kelly Ziemski (Nate), Frank Premura (Kristen), Calen Baucom (Amanda), Megan Nally (Brian), Kyle John, Cassandra Reyes (Paul), Katie Colon (Mike), Tyler John (Magdaline); 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws Editha Schmidt (the late Karl Heinz), Ulla Segert (Ray), Carol Keil (the late Werner); and many caring neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his dear wife Sonja; his parents; his sister, Hildegard John; and brother-in-laws Helmut Masch (Elfreide), and Hans Keil.
Because of the tender care that they provided to Gustav in his last days, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave. Cleveland, OH 44110; or to a charity of the donors choice.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd. Avon 44011 from 10:30 to a 1:00pm.
