Guy Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson's Funeral Home - Georgetown on Dec. 17, 2025.
Guy Earl Brown, 78, the "Great American, passed away at home peacefully in his sleep on December 15, 2025 in Georgetown, Kentucky. Guy was married to his surviving wife, Karen Homer Brown on July 7, 1985 in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia ; celebrating 40 years of love and happiness. Guy was born in Oneida, NY on February 1, 1947, to Cecil Riley and LaVerne Jennings Brown.

Raised on a horse and dairy farm in Linesville, PA He was a graduate of Linesville-Conneaut-Summit High School (1965). Guy then became a proud graduate of Penn State University where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees. He became a well respected scientist working until retirement for Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals and then Dow Chemical Corporation. He worked world wide specializing in agronomy, plant pathology, toxicology, agricultural herbicide development and quality assurance. His career led to the development of several pharmaceuticals, agricultural herbicides and pesticides that have made humanity better. His scientific mind collected data like a computer, whether for a scientific product development need or a better understanding of a person, (soon to be friend).

A strong, proud and dedicated patriot, he was honorably discharged after his service in the United States Army. Therein, he also served the Army Reserves and led details in munitions disarmament and other untold projects for the Pentagon… sometimes wearing his "green costume"; sometimes not! (That got him in trouble!!) He proudly and correctly flew the American and Kentucky state flag every day.

A fourth generation horsemen, his lifetime passion for the horse industry led him down the path of breeding, showing, auctioneering, auction sales management, recreation, show management, and the famous "Stay tuned to W - G - U - Y for further announcements!" paddock announcer …all with great success. The Indiana Horse Council, (President), and the American Horse Council in Washington DC, (member), benefitted over the years from his leadership and many contributions. His impressive career included roles as : Interim Director of the American Morgan Horse Association and Life Member since 1973, an FEI Combined Driving Steward where one of his events included being a steward at the 2010 World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park. Guy and Karen also enjoyed a meaningful collection of antique carriages and rare accessories some of which they used in the Presidential Inaugural Parades. Mostly he enjoyed just driving his singles and pairs and the occasional 4-in-hand around the farm just for the satisfaction of building a meaningful, loving relationship with his own horses. No ribbons or trophies; just a man and his horses.

Guys greatest joy came from his loved ones and he had an incredible gift of turning strangers into friends. That significant gift of perception and the ability to "find the good" in others became OUR GIFT! His love of his faith and love of his family and friends, new or old, was his valued trademark. "I" was never in Guy's conversations; his conversations became about "you" in an uncanny, delightful and respectful way. His wit and humor were unique and never escaped a visit.

Guy is survived by his two brothers, James "Jim" Cecil Brown (DeLyte "DEE" Brown) of Sanger, Texas and Jim and Peggy Mitchell Brown's children; Shelly Stine(Jeffrey), Rehoboth Beech, Delaware, twins, Jason Brown (Karen Kovak), Geoffrey Brown (Sherry Roberts), Myerstown, Pennsylvania and Eugene "Gene" Brown (Ruth Ann Pethtel) of The Villages, Florida and nephew,Darren Varee ( Lauren DiAngelis), Atwater, Ohio, and Rachael Rose Brown Deel (Joshua "Josh"), niece of Stamping Ground, Kentucky, and also several Fun and loved grand-nieces and grandnephews. Survived also by Lore Homer, Mother-in Law, of Oreland, Pennsylvania; Brother-in Law, Guy Homer (Shelly Oskow) of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania; Nephew, Kevin Homer, (Tara Walton) of West Norton, Pennsylvania and Niece, Mandy Salay, (Kevin) of Bensalem, Pennsylvania.

It was "good to be Guy Brown"! We'll likely find Guy just the same in heaven; God doesn't change what He made perfect to begin with.

At Guy's request, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

My father always spoke highly of Brown boys. He was especially proud to brag about Guy riding Doc in Reagan´s inaugural parade and riding off of the parade route to retrieve coffee for, I think , for a police officer on the parade route. The years that the Browns´ campaign Doc was a very rewarding time for my father. Guy and Gene played a big role in making that stallion a champion and giving him bragging rights. Life is too short, I´m glad our paths crossed. Hope to raise a glass to his honor down the road. Thx, Brad Ulery

A wonderful man. Always had a smile and a kind word. As I was a videographer at horse shows, Guy was an indispensable part of a particular class by calling the horse numbers as they entered the arena often with valuable info as to what colors the rider was wearing. Made our much job easier. He will be missed. RIP Guy.
