With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Guy Myrtice (Mitchell) Butler, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother and GG who not only loved on her family, but also shared her motherly love across her community through her ministry at both Union Grove Baptist Church in Auburn GA, and later at Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula GA. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 23, 2026, at the age of 90.

Guy Myrtice was born on March 28, 1935 to the late James Guy Mitchell and the late Mildred Mitchell Butler of the Mulberry Community in Gwinnett County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her late husband Ansel Quillon Butler of Auburn GA, whom she married on June 6, 1953, her sister, Christine Mitchell of the Mulberry Community: her sister, Florence Masters of Auburn GA; her step-father, Dock Alvin Butler of Auburn, GA; her brother-in-law, James Ernest Butler of Charleston, SC; her brother-in-law, Buford Myron Smith of Gainesville, GA; her brother and sister-in-law, James Calvin and Rosa Mitchell of Auburn, GA; her brother and sister-in-law, Eugene “Red” and Jewett Mitchell of Dacula, GA; her brother-in-law, Milton David Turner of Auburn, GA; her sister-in-law, Hilda Butler of Charleston, SC; and her son-in-law, Marshall Claude Reagan of Dawsonville, GA.

Guy was an active member of her community. She had a passion for missions and had a fierce love for Jesus Christ. Guy served as the President of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union at Union Grove Baptist and taught Girls in Actions as well. She was also an active leader of the youth program at Union Grove. Guy loved people and attended weekly visitations for her church. She loved to sing praises to her Lord and sang in the church choir at both Union Grove and Hebron Baptist Church. At Hebron Baptist Church, Guy was infamous for her love of the babies of Hebron. She loved on them every Sunday. She considered them “her babies.” While at Hebron, Guy was a member of multiple mission trips to various states across the US. Her love for people and her heart for the Lord made a tremendous impact on the lives of those who knew and loved her. In addition to her heart for ministry, Guy was also an avid fan of golf and loved the Georgia Bulldogs.

Guy Myrtice Butler left an indelible mark on her family, friends, and her community. She will be greatly missed. She is survived and immensely loved by her sisters, Sue Turner and Charlotte Smith; her daughter, Elaine Reagan of Dawsonville, GA; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Derinda Butler of Auburn, GA; her daughter Ellen Toles of Gainesville, GA; her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lisa Butler of Gainesville, GA; her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Jennifer Butler of Clarkesville, GA; her grandchildren, Emily and Chris Casper, Jarrod Reagan, Mary Beth and John Durham, Kimberly Butler, Kristy and Mark Mycroft, Megan and Dusty Talbert, Jana Proctor, Amy and Cohan Sharp, Jessica and Jordan Kemp, Bryson Butler and Brianna Butler; and 17 great-grandchildren and 13 nieces and nephews.
