Guy Nelson Mullinax

Guy Nelson Mullinax passed away peaceably, at the age of 98 on Thursday, July 10, 2025, in his home.

Guy was born October 17, 1926, in Lavonia Georgia to Willis and Lillian Burton Mullinax. He grew up in and around Lavonia and Toccoa. He went to work at an early age with Belk Department Store and made his career in management for more than 45 years. Guy was a World War II Veteran, having served in the U. S. Army in the Philippines. He was an active member of the Lions Club for over 70 years, having served in many positions. Guy was known, especially for his loving heart for his family and friends and for his jokes. He was a godly man who loved The Lord God and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Guy is preceded in death by his wife, Irene Acree Mullinax, his first wife, Ruth Mullinax, his sister Doris Minyard, and his grandson Dr. Sean O’Rourke.

Guy lived a long, good life and is survived by his 3 children - Sandra Wood (Barry), Randy Mullinax (Barbara), Rhonda O’Rourke (Tim), his brothers-in-law Charles Acree (Joyce) and Bobby Lowery (Vickie), and also many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his caregiver and very special friend Dupe’ Ogundimu, affectionately known to him as “D”. Surviving family includes 5 of his 6 grandchildren - Joy Nichols (Will), Matthew Wood (Audrey), Rev. Hobie Wood (Hannah), Brad Mullinax (Amy), and Dr. Kaitlyn Bradley (Adam). Guy is also survived by 13 great- grandchildren – Jenna Freeman (Dakota), Tate Nichols (Gracyn), Edward Lewis, Barry D. Wood, Levi Wood, Lat Wood, Caroline Wood, Tori Sullens (Cameron), Amberley Buffington (Austin), Brittany Masters (Justin), Corey Turner (Cora), Devin Mullinax, and Rory Bradley. He also has 8 great- great- grandchildren – Camdyn, Cadence, Branson, Everly, Charlotte, Mack, Ford, and Reagan.

The family will receive friends at W. R. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home in Clermont, Georgia on Saturday July 12th, 2025, from noon- 1:00 P.M. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 P. M. (in their chapel) and a private burial will follow. Reverend Chris Hester and Guy's grandson Reverend Hobie Wood will officiate the service.  The family will not be receiving visitors at home.
