Gwen Rather Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by M. W. Hawkes Funeral Home - Amelia on Apr. 2, 2025.
On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Gwen Rather departed this life peacefully, gaining her heavenly wings and now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Gwen was born on July 27, 1963, in Nottoway County, Virginia, to the late Roscoe Rather and Bernice Epps Rather. She attended Nottoway County Public Schools and later worked at General Binding Company (GBC) and Star Children's Dress Company for many years until her health declined.
Gwen believed in sharing her love through acts of kindness toward family, friends, and even strangers. At every family gathering, she took pride in preparing meals, with her delicious corn pudding being a favorite. She was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, often displaying her support through her attire. Gwen enjoyed watching sports, but nothing brought her greater joy than seeing her sons excel in multiple sports. She cherished each of her grandchildren, speaking with them daily and doing anything for them. Gwen also had a deep love for her family and her ministry, Bridging the Gap.
Her beautiful memories and loving spirit will be cherished by her devoted companion of 48 years, Jessie Cousin; four wonderful sons: Brooks, Jessie, Kevin (Lettie), and Quinton; eleven grandchildren: Angel, Brylan, Jaiden, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Tasia, Ariel, Kinell, Quinell, Shawn, and Rhaley; one great-grandson, Legend; two godchildren, Nevaeh and JaQuan; one brother, Michael Eppes; three sisters: Sandra Eppes, Cynthia Walker, and Hope Rather; loving uncles and aunts: Joseph (Valerie), Lawrence (Cyd), William, Gilbert, Shirley Allen, Gloria, Natalie, Diane (Harold), Carrie, Aunt E, and Delois; as well as devoted friends Dietrich Owens, Natalie Washington, Rhonda Jones, and Lynne Robertson; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gwen's love, kindness, and unwavering faith will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her.
