Maxine Rather passed away December 25, 2025 at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family.
Maxine was born in Gallatin, TN on November 9, 1936. She married M. C. Rather on December 24, 1953 and was married to him for 66 years, she made her home in Mt. Juliet for over 62 years.
She worked at their privately owned plating plant as the bookkeeper. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a member of Gladeville Baptist Church in Gladeville, TN. She loved camping, hunting and fishing, loved her family and preparing huge Sunday dinners for all who could attend.
She is preceded in death by parents; Malcom and Mildred Vaughn, husband; M. C. Rather, daughter; Dianna Rather Lloyd, siblings; George Vaughn, Mary Jackson, David Vaughn, Frances Brown, and Patricia Murphy.
Survived by her children; David (DeEtta) Rather, Allen (Susan) Rather, Martin (Tammy) Rather, Regina (Tim) Wilder; grandchildren, Amanda (Elliott) Eley, Jennifer (Ryan) Rice, Jeremy (Sheryl) Ivy, Brian (Brandy) Tomlinson, Megan (Patrick) Melet, Hunter (Brittany) Rather, Dylan Wilder, and Nicholas Wilder, great grandchildren; Mattie Eley, Josie Eley, Landon Ivy, Haiden Ivy, Caleb Tomlinson, Kaylee Tomlinson, Kya Melet, Kylie Melet, Kason Melet, Townes Rather, Jaxson Rice, brother; Harvey (Connie) Thaxton.
Special thanks to all the staff at Viva Senior Living at Wilson Manor.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Sellars Funeral Home Mt. Juliet from 11:00am-1:00pm, with funeral services to follow at 1:00pm, with Mark Satterfield officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brian Tomlinson, Jeremy Ivy, Hunter Rather, Dylan Wilder, Nicholas Wilder, and Patrick Melet.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Gentiva Hospice, Wounded Warrior Project, or Nashville Rescue Mission.
